QB: C+

RB: B+

OL: B-

WRs/TEs: B

DL: A

LBs: A

DBs: B-

Overall: A-

Thought these were pretty accurate. I'd probably downgrade QB to a C and upgrade the DBs to a B. But otherwise I pretty much agree.

"Grade" articles like this and the one MLive did (post Baumgardner) make me really appreciate how lucky we are that Brian does UFRs. Anyone with a box score a cursory viewing of the game could generate one of these with minimal effort (as many in the comments in this thread already have). It's better than nothing I guess, but really doesn't add much of value.

As several have alrealdy mentioned, we hope the FL game was a "come to Jesus" moment for Wilton, that he will learn from it and put the lesson to good use this Saturday. That he receives second-to-none instruction from his coaches, that the O-line might have stablized a little more, that he and his receivers should be a little more in sync, and that this Saturday he's facing a little less athletic defense should all combine to produce far better numbers and a far more polished performance than last week. Here's hoping, in any event. Go Blue.

Downgrades

QB C- (At least we don't have to put up with Zaire!) I beleive Speight will get better. Remember where he has come from. Harbaugh had little faith when he brought in O'Korn and recruited Gentry heavily late. He was a 3 star recruit. He continues to beat out other higher rated recruits. He had a rough ending to last season with the shoulder injury. With Harbaugh and Hamilton coaching him up, this area should improve. He has a few more weeks to get everything cleaned up.

WR/TE C+ Too many drops. Harbaugh took issue with some blocking during the game from the TE's. Crawford only 1 catch  for a measly 3 yards as he doesn't even turn to get up field. Perry showed promise, but stupid spinning ball habit cost him (could have gotten 2 penalties for this) Slow learner? With his off field issues, he needs to be squeaky clean and just play ball. Tarik did well after the one drop. DPJ, McDoom, and Wheatley need to get more involved.

Upgrades

DB - B+ This was an area of major concern and still will be with the lack of depth. Please keep us healthy back there!!! All did there jobs well with no major errors in coverage. Was pleased with Hill, Watson, Kinnell, and Metellus. Need to see more from Long.

I'm still dissapointed by Wilton's performance against osu.  And that clouded my judgement going into the bowl game.  I became frustrated during the spring game, because I expected growth.  Now I'm just numb after the florida game, no; apathetic.  8 attempts in the first half, is something to watch going forward.  and the road schedule isn't going to be easy for him.

Maybe by next season, he'll improve.  unfortunately if that happens peters starts for purdue(?)

The Thing With Speight:

It's great that he keeps on an even keel and is able to shake off epic mistakes like the 1.5 pick-six throws (I think the first one was half on Speight for throwing high and half on Crawford)  A short memory is is a vital and necessary thing for a QB to succeed.  It'd be even better, though, if he didn't have to shake off epic mistakes on account of not making them in the first place.

I get that players can and do improve and even while doing so still make mistakes.  Even Tom Brady throws pick-6's.  Certainly, the Speight we see now isn't necessarily going to be the one we get in November.  But there've been critical INTs at the wrong time against Iowa and OSU that directly lead to losses.  Against a top-20 offense, the two picks last Saturday could've doomed us.  There have been too many mistakes and, well, you are what your record says you are.  And Speight would be the first to admit this.

Having said that, I still feel he's still our best option going forward to win games this year and I haven't seen anything to indicate otherwise.  And yes, I DID watch the Indiana game last year, which only amplifies my contention.  If anyone thinks otherwise, then by all means state your case as to why you're right and Jim Harbaugh is wrong about our quarterbacking situation.
