- It's the player's job to make himself an attractive asset for whoever his team is

- It's the agent's job to negotiate the best possible payday for his player client and by extension himself

- It's the organization's job to sensibly allocate resources to assemble a collection of players to field a team that fans will pay to watch

Of the parties involved here, two out of three did their jobs.

Not sure this is a good metaphor. With a stool, the three legs have a single, common purpose around which their interests align: supporting the seat and overall stool structure. In an NBA free agency signing scenario, only the player and agent have aligned interests; and they are not aligned with those of the organization until they sign a contract.

That's a lot for a guy who's never been a full-time starter (he started 30 of 79 games this past season) but good for him!
