Isn't Stanford perpetual champion because they have the most D1 sports thus more avenues to contribute points?

There is a cut off for how many sports count, so most schools at the top all reach the maximum. Stanford does have more opportunities, but they are national contenders in almost all of them, so they'd probably win any way you do it. Schools like North Carolina, Michigan, and UCLA have come close some years. It seems we can never get all of our traditional performers on the same page, though. I.E. this year football will score a lot but hockey probably won't reach the post season. It looks like we will start getting points from historical doormat women's basketball, though.

To your point though, we finished high last year and I believe if you only compared our scores with Stanford's in just our scoring sports, they would have still beaten us.
