1. The 68 team probably didn't underperform. Indeed, some sites predicted that team to be at the bottom of the B10. The 67 team was 4-6, the last losing season in M football until 08. 2. The game was not for the Rose Bowl. While not a given, Michigan was odds on going to the Rose Bowl regardless. A loss would have put Michigan into a second place tie, and likely would have gone because they had beaten the team they were tied with (I think it was Purdue), and they had not gone to the Rose Bowl longer. 3. OSU was not going to a bowl thanks the B10's no repeat rule so the 69 game was their bowl. 4. Today's OSU basketball team is going to get a 2 or 3 seed in the tournament regardless of the outcome of the game. All this is a long-winded way of saying there would be no comparison. On the other hand, if Michigan were to win the B10 championship -- unlikely given the halftime score, not to mention the need for two additional wins -- you might be able to make a comparison,

1st post and a daily reader. The pure ignorance of this post has inspired me to post. Come on, dude. Ohio State basketball isn't even close to what Ohio State football is/was. It's a freakin second round game in the Big Ten tournament. Football is religion in Columbus and Ann Arbor. Ohio State's team was being compared to NFL teams that year. It was for a trip to the Rose Bowl and we were heavy underdogs. It laid the groud work for the rivalry to become the best in sports. Even if this basketball game was for the National Championship it wouldn't be on the level of that game in "69". Before I opened this thread I was sure it meant to be sarcastic. Seriously, there's not even an argument to be made in your favor for this rediculous post.

The Rose Bowl wasn't on the line; we'd already clinched it thanks to the no-repeat rule that prevented OSU from going. But a share of the Big Ten was indeed at stake.

That team and the circumstances with which they were faced with are so far apart that they cannot be measured to this basketball team in any way possible.
