SB at UCLA open thread (Free Stream link)
I got a link to Pac-12 Network. Anytime anyone wants to watch a game on P12, this guy has got you covered.
#2 Michigan faces #13 UCLA on the road in a 10pm game.

And just as I'm writing that ... BOOM!
Clearly, they're reading mgoblog on their phones in the dugout and decided to oblige.
*this guy*, listed in the main post, is me. I'm glad you are enjoying the access to PAC-12 Network via my website. Thanks to "TraceMyIP.org", I was able to see the *find*.
YOU ARE THE BEST
You're welcome. Any additional questions on games streamed through my site, be sure to chime up on the chat on my site, and check back in, especially if it's between 8a - 6p M-F PT, as I have limited access during work (8:30a - 5p).
Best page to check for schedule updates, as I pull them from the PAC-12.com schedule is on my member site, as I have all 3 forms listed: PAC-12.com, Live feeds, and Live streams.
4 long balls on the season already for Susalla - only Romero has more for the Maize & Blue thus far. What a phenomenal player she's developed into.
Kelsey is certainly coming on strong. What did you think of Amanda Vargas' HR? Pretty impressive.
What a luxury to have a player like her coming off the bench! I'd argue we've got at least 11-12 starter-quality players on our roster, and maybe even a few more who have the potential to push for playing time next year. We lose a lot at the end of this season, but there are some great players coming up the pipeline too.
with you there. This is our year as next year will be a re-loading year.
I thought this game is the toughest game the entire week.
Too many walks ... let's get some outs!
Do you think the new strike zone rules are screwing with Betsa this year? I mean, they effectively negate the rise ball which is her bread and butter.
Didn't realize they had made an alteration - do you have the details of what it was? If it monkeys with the rise ball, that certainly would hurt Betsa. Of course, her struggles are also at least partially attributable to injury as well.
I guess it's not technically a new rule so much as a "point of emphasis". They're basically cracking down on the standard strike zone. Crossing over the plate, between the armpits and the knees. For a rise ball pitcher who throws the rise ball for strikes not just out of the zone, this could be killer. Especially since they've definitely been calling the height part pretty consistently that I've seen so far this year. And I've noticed Betsa throwing a lot more down in the zone this year as well.
Thanks for the info, that's good stuff to know. Something like that could well be messing with her head. It'll also be interesting to watch, b/c sometimes these "points of emphasis" fade away once league play & postseason hit. Might see Betsa get back to normal if/when officiating returns to normal.
Hutch has to pull her.
has really struggled against the really elite teams so far this year..thtas a little concerning...Lets go Sarah!
many walks this year. I will have to go back and check last year to see if she how many walks she had at this point last year.
Or whatever his name is.
Pure Money at SS.
to score 2.
Huge win against another Blue Blood...Great Jobs..THAT was a nailbiter
scoops and throws for the final out. 8-6 us.
GO BLUE!
MICHIGAN WINS!!! The defensive struggles continue, but so far the offense has been able to paper most of them over. There's a lot of season left to get that part of the game in order - I really hope we do, or post-season will be much dicier than we had hoped pre-season. Beating UCLA on their home turf is always huge, though, and for tonight, I'm delighted to be able to go to bed happy about the W. Let's keep it rolling this weekend!
combined for 4 BB and 4 Ks. This is way too many walks. We need to have a 1:2 ratio in order to succeed. We will not win many tough games with this ratio.
This is definitely the concern. Really looking to coach Brundage to get this sorted out.
agree with you but I am not sure. The season is beyond the 25% threshold where the lineu should be stable and the pitching should be dialed in.
Yeah, it was really bad. Christer actually walked twice in an at-bat that was eventually called a strikeout.
Watched the game!!!
Watched the game!!!
Watched the game!!!
BUT weve played about as tough of non conf schedule as there is in the country so thats taken a toll but weve proven we can out slug just about anyone
That's certainly the positive angle, and it's important not to lose sight of it amidst the frustration with the defense. This is an elite offensive team, and we're putting up big numbers even against quality opposition. That means we've got a chance in every game we play, without a doubt.
I'd also say that some of us, myself included, need - to use Hutch's phrase - to improve our one-pitch focus. I know I came into the season so excited for a WCWS run & potential National Championship that every little flaw is magnified, b/c I'm seeing it as a threat to that high destiny. The reality is that a season is a long process, and it's not about how you start, it's about how you finish. Tonight, we won the game - a step forward.
I think the team is feeling a little bit of pressure after last season.
But the reality is that winning a game in March will not advance you directly to Oklahoma City. It's a long journey.
One game, one inning, one pitch focus.
I think you're right on this point. Last season, it was much more of a free-wheeling, fun attitude as the team was exceeding expectations constantly. Now the expectations are a weight. Hutch has talked about this, and some of the players did too, esp. after the Florida debacle. A lot of them were putting so much pressure on that game as a chance to prove themselves as title contenders, and lost one-pitch focus. I think we're getting it back, especially at the plate, but it's a process.
championships though. We cannot out drive the elite teams. Sure we can win with this strategy against good teams but come June, it all comes down to pitching.
When you look at who weve already played..#1 Florida, FSU twice at FSU, Oklahoma, Washington, UCLA in LA, and Mizzou tommorow...Man thats a TOUGH schedule..go look at #3 Auburns schedule and you will see what Im talking about...I dont see many Ls on our schedule..Sure there could be a couple of upsets but I wouldnt bank on it...This win tonight cements us as the #2 team in nation
At least a couple more tough non-conf games left, including our next game tomorrow against #18 Mizzou. That series at Nebraska is looking more and more interesting as well, as the Huskers have crept into the rankings. Their record is a little wonky - an impressive takedown of top-ten Oregon, but a 5-run loss to a bleh NC State squad. Still, a 3 game set on their turf could get interesting. Still can't believe the Big Ten office robbed us of a regular season showdown with Minnesota...
This was the 100th win all-time for Michigan when ranked #2 in the country.
100-12 record. Amazing.

a BUNCH more Ws to that record because we are going to be #2 for a long time if not #1 if UF stumbles a little and they could playing in the SEC
Gotta get this thread to 100.
