OT: ESPN Article on Hoke's Start as Oregon DC

Submitted by FauxMo on

Pretty good article, and I think we should all wish Brady the best (unless, of course, UM is playing the Ducks).

I have to admit I did laugh out loud when Hoke was quoted as saying: "“You’ve got to hear football,” Hoke said. “You’ve got to be out there and hear it. ... I think that’s a metric that’s measurable.”"

Maybe that explains the lack of a headset? He is some kind of football ninja that only needs his ears to measure football excellence, and therefore cannot be burdened with a headset?? :-)

. . . a throwaway comment that the writer used to build a story around, at least I hope so. As the DC Hoke better have a keen eye for detail in order to field a competent defensive unit.

Otherwise when he hears someone say Duck,

they won't be talking about the mascot.

I have nothing against Hoke, he tried hard, it meant a lot to him being here, and he is a good person.  But he was a bad fit...  So far as the story goes, most of those defensive stats that document the difference between Rich Rod's aversion to defense and Hoke's attention to it can be attributed to Greg Mattison.  Good luck to him at Oregon, but I don't think his defense will be as successful as most defenses that Mattison has coordinated.

We should all wish him well. It is the gracious thing to do. However, he failed at Michigan not because he was a bad fit, but because he was in way over his head.

and let's be clear there is a separation from the coach, so fucking "Brady like, " I believe this to be true. Brady, you are a good man, but thank whatever is that greater power that exists for telling David Brandon to make you a multi-millionaire and disproving Deroucher's famous words about, "nice guys finishing last." You are a nice guy, but he was talking about Ws and Ls, which very well might be true in your case, but sir, you are a mutil-millionaire without a clue as to how it happended. I applaud you. And, somehow, despite your obvious deficiencies as a football coach, you are a winner as to my perception.

Maybe there's a good reason other coaches don't do full contact every practice. While Hoke is obsessed with toughness, he doesn't seem to understand the methods for instilling it. His teams never looked tough on Saturday.
