I've always liked the NCAA system of every play being reviewed automatically. It's got flaws, but they made some changes this year that really minimized the impact on game play. Whether people think they make the correct calls or not is a separate question, but I think the system works pretty well for the most part and the coaches rarely use their challenges. That said, the nfl is missing a huge opportunity here to implement some tech into the game. One of the reasons replays take so long (or used to) was the refs having to get to the sidelines to watch plays. The NFL should have employed drones to fly out tablets to the refs on the field so they didn't have to leave and could speed up reviews. They could even put some advertising on the drone to sell sponsorship. Huge missed opportunity here.

RIght now replay is used as a back-up to help make calls "more accurate" and to correct obvious errors.

As more and more games get covered by TV and coverage becomes more encompassing (probably first in the pro games - pylon cameras, goalpost cameras) ultimately the referee up in the booth can throw a flag just like the ones on the field.
