Don't Give up on Basketball Just Yet...

Submitted by Wolverheel on
2 years ago we lost to Charlotte, got crushed by Duke, and started 6-4 in non-conference. THEN to top it all off, Mitch McGary got injured for the year. All hell broke loose and that team was going nowhere. But then Stauskas stepped up and lifted the team on his back. We ended up going 22-4 the rest of the season en route to a dominating big ten championship before coming inches away from knocking off the eventual national runners up in the [edit: Elite 8! My bad guys.]

We are still a young team and from the looks of it the Big Ten isn't very strong this year. If we can just become competent defensively and get ONE of our 4 centers to play at their best level this team still has good potential once we get Irvin back to full health. Be patient guys!

Look, it's not that they lost to Xavier, it's the way they lost. I believe they've got to cut the rotation down to 8 or 9 max, you can't get into the flow of the game substituting all night. Using 4 guys on the perimeter on offense and using 1 six foot nine guy to rebound won't get the job done. Walton and Irvine were pretty much invisible. The defense is absolutely pathetic, or it was last night. B__ didn't just forget how to coach but if you don't have the right players in his system, you're in big trouble. I guess we'll just have to wait and hope it improves.

that the two guys (Irvin and Spike) who EASILY led Michigan in minutes played last season, one who scored the most points on the season and had the most rebunds as well and the other who led the team in assists are both nowhere near 100 percent tight now. Both these guys are upperclassmen.

Remember MSU lost to Texas Southern last year without their senior leader Dawson on the court.

Slow down on the doomsday reports. They played a bad game, it happens. This team will look a lot different later in the season.

Beilein is just over .500 in B1G play for his career despite a couple conference regular season championship. Does that surprise anyone? We tend to exit the conference tournament early. That says a lot. Xavier is the kind of team we will play in league play. Love the guy but he's probably at the right school but in the wrong conference

The softness we saw yesterday doesn't bode well.

Also If he continues to give starts and big minutes to guys that don't contribute it will be a very long season. Need to develop some chemistry and consistency.

Beilein's teams always start pretty slow and get better throughout the season. We may have a couple other losses that look like this, but I think we'll get some big wins too. I'm concerned that LeVert doesn't trust his teammates enough to let them take shots when the clock is winding down. Irvin and Albrecht are clearly not 100% so I'm optimistic in a couple months that will be different.
