But according to Gregg Henson the battle is going strong, and looks like Morris is leading

I'm confused by the reasoning in this thread. Didn't MSU's current QB look hilariously bad in his first two games? Do we really think people can't improve?

I never thought that Shane was as bad as the criticism that mounted against him.

He has a gun of an arm and is pretty smart.  All the kid needs is playing time behind a decent line.

I'll admit, I've been feeling better at the thought of Ruddock being the starter over Morris but I guess that's not really fair considering the other factors involved in Shane's two games as a starter. In the Toilet Bowl game against Kansas State, he was behind (possibly) the worst O-Line in school history. The defense, which was supposed to be the strength of that squad, got torched by a mediocre KSU team, we were down double digits before you could blink twice. It's hard to put any QB in that situation. In addition, there are the rumors (which of course I can't verify) that the team didn't want to be there and their lackluster play reflected that. And honestly, after the way they lost the OSU game, it wouldn't surprise me. Last year's Minnesota game, I don't have the stomach to go back and look it over again but if I'm not mistaken, wasn't the O-Line still in train wreck mode at that point? The team, with Gardner, had already been destroyed in 2 of their 3 previous games so morale might have been low. But that's all I got for this one. Before Morris took that infamous hit, I think he had only two decent throws all game. I believe his interception was off a deflection but it was a killer. 7 of 19 for 49 yards and a pick. I'd really like to see how Morris looks under competent coaching and with a less dysfunctional supporting cast around him.

Whether this is accurate or not, it's perfect timing. It has seemed as though our "QB controversy" has died down with Rudock the assumed candidate, and now our opponents have to prepare for multiple options... again. I just hope someone from Utah is following Henson... I won't hold my breath though.

I had thought this QB would be possibly number one or de minimis three by now in essentially pro scheme. I seldom hear about Speight, which interests me because Speight appeared to have been groomed since procreation to perform as QB and kid seems to have the physical tools. Since we're currently in "submarine" uber-super-dark-secret-alien-stealth mode, and the players cannot review MGoBlogs, I respectfully request that somebody out there who at least pretends to be knowledgeable please help educate me whether and if so how I have been terribly misguided concerning Speight. Perhaps I should revisit old SpaceCoyote posts or the like. Why is Speight-talk as quiet as it is? Respectfully, the kid is not at Michigan to learn rocket science or ballet.

There will be ups and downs for all the QB's, who is on top will probably change from practice to practice, at least early on in camp. It wouldn't hurt my feelings at all if Morris ends up being the starter and ends the season as the starter.  It would be great to have the possibility of continunity at the QB position for two or three years.

If Morris does end up being the guy that just leaves another pitch black mark on Hoke and his offensive coaches. Did you see what I did there?

Who ever wins the competition will get the nod, no doubt. But when real bullets start firing I still think Rudock gives us the best shot to win, especially against other good teams. I really hope Shane proves me and everyone wrong, because I know everyone would agree that Shane's arm is better and if he can figure things out I think he puts us to another level that we would never reach with Rudoch

I hope he wins the spot just because the "Morris will never start crowd" is the most obnoxious wing of MgoBlog.

Don't give a shit who starts. Throw the ball accurately. Make way more smart decisions than poor decisions. Have a stout run game with great intermediate passing. Our defense should be tough. This should translate to a much more enjoyable football season and still keep us competitive in the win column.

I believe Morris is more talented, is responding to his coaching, is very highly motivated, has had a lifetime love for Michigan football, carries himself with class, and deserves far more respect than many here have given him. Whether he starts Utah or not, Morris is not a quitter, he has represented UM well as a student athlete. Some of the harsh assessments lack context, at a minimum, and others are just crap. SC and similar posts demonstrate a reasoned look at the matter. Morris will start, and he will be strong. Book it

People saying Morris won't start game 1 are forgetting something...he is the only QB on the roster to have game experience against the Utes. That may bode well in his favor if he keeps this going throughout camp.
