OT: Red Wings buy out Stephen Weiss
For the many here who care, the Wings bought out Stephen Weiss today. This opens up some cap space for free agency which starts tomorrow.
More relevant to this blog, this opens up a spot at center that Dylan Larkin could compete for.

Edit: They also re-signed Brendan Smith, but that was expected.
He hasn't made exclusively good decisions, but the guy has built an elite farm system, hit one his number one picks, and continued a 20 year playoff streak despite the transition to a salary cap. He also got a third round pick from a coach while preparing a smooth transition to a ready predecessor.
What a disappointment, was really excited when we signed Weiss; he just didn't have it anymore. One of the very few misses by Holland and the Wings.
