Jaylen Brown To Cal
Uh, okay?
Jaylen Brown tells Scout that he has committed to California. Story coming.

The lesson, as always, is that Tennessee is bad at having college sports. It would have been real, real nice to grab Brown but Michigan is still looking at a very deep roster that should see them have a nice 2015-16. C'est la vie.

Good luck to the young man. I wish him well.
Just heard this morning on the radio a basic piece of easily obtainable background information that would have made Brown's selection of California far less mystifying than it initially seemed. I don't recall seeing it anywhere on MGoBlog, either in any of Brian's articles or on the board. It's not in this thread.
One of Brown's teammates on his Wheeler team is Bilal Abdur-Rahim, who is the very much younger brother of Wheeler alum Sharif Abdul-Rahim. Until Brown came along, Sharif was the most notable Wheeler alum, with a 12-year NBA career. The connection to Brown's choice of Cal is that Abdul-Rahim also attended Cal for one year, and recently completed his Berkeley degree after his NBA career ended. There's no confirmation out of the Brown family about the extent of any relationship with Abdul-Rahim, but it's ridiculously unlikely to me that there weren't meaningful conversations between the Brown family and Sharif Abdul-Rahim about attending Cal.
*Edit: Ira on WTKA just confirmed that this was addressed by Sam Webb last week, and apparently Sharif Abdul-Rahim is one of the main advisors to the Brown family. Given this relationship, the crystal balls shouldn't have been pointed to Kansas or Kentucky or even Michigan—they should have been at least equally pointed to Berkeley.
for ANOTHER dong punch
At least he has also committed to doing no damage whatsoever in the big dance by committing to Cal.
thanks, Jaylen.
I will be majorly disappointed if we leave the slot empty and bank it for 2016. We should have at the very least kept Max Bielfeldt or Austin Hatch.
I will be somewhat disapponted if we pluck yet another unranked recruits. While I do not for one second doubt Beilein's eye for talent but this is akin to asking Belichick to fill his NFL roster with undrafted rookie. Is there any chance we can steal some of Florida's recruit now that Donovan is off to coach the Thunder?
Cal? Really?
