BC is a dynasty at this point. Might have gone to school there if I could have afforded it (I guess thankfully I couldn't). I've always liked their school and sports teams.
Minnesota vs. NoDak should be crazy, pretty fierce rivalry.
I likened that game to a Kansas St - Alabama football game. KState is good, but you'd have though talent would win out. Congrats to them, I'll be rooting for them in the final in all likelihood
We should take a hard look at the Union coach when Red retires.
I think he's been there almost 20 years and this is the first time he's had this kind of success. He might've just stumbled on a good class or two or some good leaders.
Every once in a while a coach gets hot for a year or two and everyone goes "omgmusthave" but I think it's premature. Give it another 2-4 years and I bet Union fades back into the anonymity of your average mid-major college hockey school
I just looked him up. This is his third year as head coach, before that he was an assistant since 2005-2006. I would say he has been pretty succesfull in a limited time frame.
Hmm not sure who we were talking about then. Ferris states coach? We were talking about some long time coach who was doing well now.
Edit: Oops. We were discussing Rand Pecknold of Quinnipiac who has been there 19 years.

Bob Daniels has been at Ferris for 20 years.
Both of the NTDP coaches will be getting calls from D-1 programs.
Danton Cole is the U-18 coach and his name is thrown around all of the time, but I don't know if Michigan has a shot at him. He turned down the MSU job when Comley left and it wouldn't surprise me if he took it if Anastos gets let go. The program is much better off now than it was 4 years ago.
Don Granato coaches U-17 and is under the radar to most hockey fans. His player development is outstanding and his team right now could be the best Under-17 team we have ever had.
Rick Bennett is in his third year as head coach at Union and they've been pretty good all 3. Before that, he was an assistant there for a while, under Nate Leaman (who coached for a while, had a decent year and now is at Providence who has become better). But he's someone who, if Union does well next year, I wouldn't mind as coach. And I don't believe he has any significant ties to Union, other than coaching there (he didn't graduate from there), so he might be amenable to a move despite having success there.
In February, he took a swing at the RPI coach and got suspended for four games (and deservedly so).
In April, he was named coach of the year.
I saw Union play live this year. They seemed flawless.
Oh, I didn't realize that. It's going to be interesting next year. There's a possiblility that Michigan and MSU will be looking for a coach in the same year.
Nice suit.
Who is he?
That way the title game is sort of win-win. Either Union gets their first national title or the Big Ten gets theirs
2 frozen fours and 3 conference tournament championships in 3 years is pretty impressive for a school like Union.
We need to get our shit together. BC has tied us for most frozen four appearances.
And Minnesota tied us for tournament appearances.
Wow, how did Skjei not score there
April 10th, 2014 at 10:07 PM ^
Uh...conflict of interest maybe? I've never heard of a non-neutral refs in any tournament hockey
Edit: Now they say there are Big Ten and Hockey East crews here...so they had a Hockey East crew ref BC's game and a Big Ten crew ref Minnesota's?....Did nobody see the easy solution to this obvious conflict of interest?

He just windmilled that puck down to the ice with disdain

If it comes between us and MSU for Danton Cole, do you really believe that Hollis could land him over us. We are the greatest college hockey program ever with state of the art facilities while MSU is just another elite program playing in a decaying arena.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Danton_Cole. So that would be one reason.

Minnesota has basically no offensive zone time this period
and as I say that Minnesota scores. They're lucky they're not down 2-0 instead of up 1-0
April 10th, 2014 at 10:45 PM ^
Wow, after about 51 minutes of no scoring we get two in 30 seconds.
1-1
April 10th, 2014 at 10:46 PM ^
If he went to State then it would be different, but no neutral coach would go to them over us with the facilities differences and USNDT in Ann Arbor to recruit from.

Minnesota scores the short-handed game winning goal with 0.6 seconds left
I don't think I've ever seen a short-handed winning goal scored in the last second or two of any college or NHL game (though I'm sure it has to have happened).
What were there, 3 N Dakota defenders trying to block that shot, besides the goalie? Unfortunately, those defenders instead acted as a screen and the goalie appeared to move the wrong way at the last instant, which allowed the puck to just barely squeeze in between his left skate ant the post.
In the end, though, it's a win for B1G Hockey.

(1) Minnesota vs. (3) Union will be your national title game Saturday
April 11th, 2014 at 11:35 AM ^
You mean (1) Union vs. (2) Minnesota (at least per http://www.uscho.com/rankings/)

Wow. That ending was incredible. Go Union!
April 10th, 2014 at 11:26 PM ^
North Dakota knows all too well about being punched in the dong just like us. They've come close so many times but just not able to finish.
April 10th, 2014 at 11:41 PM ^
This is just as bad. I feel empathetic towards the Sioux.
April 10th, 2014 at 11:48 PM ^
My only interaction with their fans was before our game against them in '11 and they seem like the cockiest bunch of mouth breathers on the interweb
April 10th, 2014 at 11:51 PM ^
Note that I said I feel empathetic, not sympathetic. Empathetic implies I know how being dong-punched feels in the NCAA tournament. Sympathetic implies I feel sorry for them, which I do not.
April 10th, 2014 at 11:53 PM ^
Missed the key letters there. I too empathize with them
That being said, I still find it amusing they lost
April 11th, 2014 at 10:46 AM ^
I love Michigan sports but I could never imagine flipping a double bird at any kid in an opposing uniform.
April 11th, 2014 at 11:27 AM ^
I'll admit I flipped a bird at Marcus Hall during the Game this year.
Wow, for a second I thought that was Phil Kessel and JVR together in college...that would just be wild.

The Sioux remind me of Kentucky. Their fans are everywhere.
Who are the Sioux - they are only North Dakota - didn't you hear?
GO GOPHERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm a huge NHL fan, but NEVER heard of Union before we met. I can't even spell Skeneckteddy. Gotta go for relatives over conference. Go Union!
