Happy Oberon Day!

The 2014 batch is tapped at midnight tonight. If this isn't a national holiday, it should be. The distribution is expanding to NYC this year. I was pleasantly surprised to find it in Asheville, NC last year.

Aren't they finally canning it this year, too? Seems like every year for the past three, they've talked about how this year was the year they were going to be canning to be able to get Oberon on golf courses and other places that don't usually allow glass.

We release them April 28th.

Also, we didn't change the beer for "national" syndication or whatever it was that another poster said.  A) we've never changed Oberon, one does not change their most successful product ever *(well, Two Hearted is now our no. 1 as of December 2013); the only thing that changes are agricultural environmental conditions and memory. B) the beer has always been brewed year-around in very small batches for the Florida and Arizona markets. Why? Larry Bell has always fancied Oberon as being his "baseball beer". That is the reason it is seasonl throughout most of the U.S., but is also the reason it is year around in those two states: spring ball.

Say what you will about Larry "he's an asshole [which he isn't]", but when you boycott a company like Bell's due to a personality conflict you are also effectively boycotting the almost 300 individuals and families who make their living from Larry Bell.

Commence my online obliteration by firestorm.

I hate Oberon, not a big fan of Bells in general (the owner is an asshole) that and my parents founded Arcadia brewing company. I do however buy all my home brewing equipment and supplies from Bells store.

On a side note, has anyone grown their own hops? Is it easy? What should I look at to get started?

But summer has always meant "Hoegaarden" to me since I worked in Belgium (yes, you can get it year 'round there, but still...).

Arcadia has a new resturant brewery a 1/4 mi down the road from bells on the kalamazoo river. You will be able to dock a kayak or canoe and drink some beers.

And an FYI - There is a nano-brewery in Holland - Our Brewing Company, that has a Michigan grad as it's brewmaster.  Great stuff, if you're over on that side of the state.
