The number of responses there that basically argue, "Well, they said mean things about Adreian Payne and cheered when our QB was injured, too" is astounding to me. How is "they're just as bad" a remotely valid point? How about just being a decent person and deciding that something is wrong and not trying to justify your own terrible behavior because someone else has done it too.

For what it's worth, I went back and reviewed two of the mgoblog threads they mentioned specifically - when Adreian Payne was killed, and when Mark Dantonio had a heart attack.

In the Adreian Payne thread, I'd say it was solidly 90% or more of basically just saying, "Sucks to see a life ended so young. RIP." or something similar. There was definitely 10% or so that were pointing out that Payne was at a minimum tangentially involved in some not so wholesome situations, and was maybe not a great dude. Those folks were roundly downvoted with many pointing out the distastefulness of using his death as an opportunity to bring up those things. I didn't see anyone openly or gleefully celebrating or doing anything like that.

In the Mark Dantonio thread, it was unanimously positive sentiments, well wishes to get better, etc. The closest thing to any kind of rivalry stuff was one or two jokes about how he should probably take this as a sign he should retire and take care of his health, which, if anything, is a roundabout way of showing some begrudging respect.

If they're talking about Drew Stanton's injury in 2004, the vast majority of fans did not do that.  Once it was clear he was injured, the stadium grew quiet.
