Karan Higdon at Senior Bowl practice buzz

Submitted by Michigan4Life on January 26th, 2019 at 2:42 PM

I've heard some great things about Karan Higdon this week and how he impressed people who were at the Senior Bowl practices. He showed that he can catch, block and run routes which is something that he wasn't asked to do much at Michigan. Stock is on the upswing for Higdon. He's still a day 3 pick but could sneak into tailend of day 3 due to production, violent running style and big play potential.

Quote from Jeff Risdon who was there had something good to say about Higdon:

"What stood out about the 5-9, 203-pound Wolverine was his work in the passing game in Mobile. That was not something he got much of a chance to show during his time at Michigan, but Higdon looked great catching the ball, protecting the QB and blowing past coverage on wheel routes"

It's a shame that a kid is not allowed to play to his full potential because of Harbaugh and his staffs control issues. Absolutely ridiculous that Michigan has the same kind of athletes that OSU/Bama/Clemson has and they are not used to their full potential. Absolute shame that Michigan's receiver corps were used like they were this year. Collins/DPJ/ Black and Martin should be on the field 98% of the game and Patterson should be allowed to play like he did at Ole Miss. The ONLY way Michigan will modernize will be if Harbaugh will actually allow Gattis to be a real OC. I am worried though that Gattis mentioned earlier that the approach once again will be a full committee effort! I am also very weary if Pep stays on even as the QB coach because Speight looked horrible before he got hurt his last year under the guidance of Pep Hamilton the 1.2 million dollar assistant coach. Higdon however is an AVERAGE RB and will last in the league maybe 3 years. Will not be drafted until the 4th -5th round either. Michigan needs a breakaway run threat and those who think Karan Higdon was that is smoking some high grade stuff. He was non existent against good teams just like Rashan Gary.

Also, the idea that “buzz” has any real significance is highly questionable. Those who comment publicly about any player in the game are going to be looking for something positive to say.

Some of you should be ashamed of yourselves. Get some perspective. Karan has a daughter he needs to think about. Running back careers are short enough as it is, you have to make your money when the opportunity is presented to you.

Besides, if Karan plays in the bowl game and goes off for 200 yards, Jim never brings in Gattis and we’re stuck with Pep as OC for next year.

Even if Karan can carve out a career similar to Fitzgerald Toussaint, stay in the league for four years as a backup, get 40 carries... That’s four years of NFL game checks. Fitz Toussaint has earned 1.75 million dollars playing in the NFL. If that’s Karan’s floor, it’s worth him skipping the bowl game on the 2% chance he gets injured/nicked/hurts his draft stock.

People like to pass that off as nothing and a failure of a career, but it’s more than many will make in their entire lives.

Everyone knows Senior Bowl practices are 100x more important than the game. There’s a difference between getting in front of 32 NFL teams, scouts, and coaches for a full week of practice and showcasing your abilities vs adding more game tape when you have already have 400 carries in two years.

Those 18 yards on 5 carries sure did a lot for his draft stock.   If only Keith Jackson were alive to give a Whoa Nellie.

I agree with m99tt below , he does have a family to look out for ,however, he should have thought about accepting the leadership role of this team last fall when he was voted a captain ,  a captain "DOES NOT" quit on his team

I really think i5 was not only his production in the Peach Bowl that was missing but the team leadership that was lost. If the captain doesn’t play, why should we think this is important? In the second half the team quit. You really think a team leader is going to let that happen?

Scouts already collected all his stats at the Senior bowl practices.  There are combine-like sessions including official measurements, physicals, etc.  He may not even get an invite to the combine as teams already have what they need.
