College football kinda sucks now

We’re stuck between a 4 team “playoff” (lol) and 38 other bowls that have been rendered meaningless to many.

These bowls feature watered down versions of teams that most likely won’t be motivated to play as the common theme in bowls is now having one team that doesn’t care.

The ticket prices for watered down teams and games certainly don’t reflect it.

We have Clemson-Alabama XLVII for the national title game with ticket prices

Conference title games are broken and just money grabs at this point to watch a superior team kill an inferior one because divisions are unbalanced.

Commercials.

How/will this be fixed or is the sport just gonna continue to get worse? Is the next step guys sitting out against WMU and SMU to avoid injury in a bodybag game?

I kind of agree. Back in high school and college I'd be excited for bowl season and would catch as many as I could. I'd at the very least throw the games on in the background while I played video games. This year I only watched maybe two games other than Michigan and I wasn't really watching them closely. It really does seem like teams don't care as much and a lot of the games are just sloppy and weird. Even the playoff games were boring and one sided.

I never ever thought I'd say this but I honestly wish we could go back to the traditional bowl game structure with 'mythical' national champion(s).

Considering where things stand now, and the money flowing from the TV deals, you're right it will probably get worse before some sweeping event forces a fundamental change in the administration of college football.

I do tend to think the bowl structure is unstable and a quarter or so of the bowls will find themselves taking a loss and be cancelled in the near future.  The corporate sponsorship gets more absurd and bizarre by the year, which to me is a sign that the already menial interest in watching two bad teams play on a weeknight in an empty arena is dropping.  When it drops past a financial topping point, bowls will finally start to be cancelled instead of added.

On the other hand, a bunch of bowls could band together and try to create something like a post-season football version of the Big Ten - ACC challenge.  That would make a bad matchup interesting and would maybe allow a failing bowl to perpetuate itself .

College football completely sucks right now.  I’ve abandoned the NFL completely and will probably phase out college football, too.  For a multitude of exhausted reasons.

These bowl games are just a money grab. I am old enough to remember when there were four bowl games and it was an honor to play in them.
