OT: Slow Morning Question: Best Way to Locate Rare Beer?

Submitted by WichitanWolverine on December 6th, 2018 at 9:47 AM

Slow morning so I thought I'd seek out some help. Long story short I'm looking to find some Pliny the Elder in the Denver area (via store, not restaurant). I have the Untappd and Taphunter apps but feel like it's still a crap shoot trying to locate some.

Does anyone have any better suggestions on how to find rare beers?

No, but it's more fun this way.  If it bothers you that badly, just keep buying the stuff you like, problem solved.

Going on the Coors brewery tour was educational in seeing how long it took different parts of the country to even get different varieties of lager/pilsners.  I much prefer this current choice overload to being excited when I could finally buy Coors.

I’ve gotten bottles of Pliny at Argonauts numerous times but it’s been a year or so. I follow them on twitter and they tweet out when they have it...you can only get 2 per person and if I remember correctly it’s usually a Thursday or a Friday and they’re gone in a few hours or so.

I'll be honest; I recoil at this sort of thing. It's an annoying game that breweries play and I refuse to participate.

"ZOMG (this or particular beer or that particular beer) is so amazing!!! Too bad they only brew precisely 725 milliliters per year!"

Truth is that at least 75% of the people who ever try said "amazing" beer don't even like it; they just like that they got something "limited". It's all falsely manufactured demand by intentionally low supply and it's just silly. I'm not paying $1 or more per ounce for CBS or Pliny the Elder or any stupid beer when there's plenty of great beers out there with good distribution.
