A ref told Devin Bush where to line up Saturday
Stolen from this Reddit post, but at the 8:24 mark of this video you can see a ref bump into Devin Bush when everyone is getting lined up. Normally in these situations you see the ref get lined up behind the LB or in a new spot, instead he keeps telling Bush to moves until he forces Bush to a new spot. Bush is then trying to find a new spot when the ball is snapped and not set when it is, and this probably helps SMU on a reverse that goes for a first down.
Another instance of the incompetence from the refs on Saturday.

Ah, incompetent Sun Belt refs, certainly has never happened to Michigan before, like say in a bowl game against a team now a B1G member

What's YOUR deal?

Not to add to conspiracy but I'd hate to think a mf'ing ref would do something like that to get a rise out of a player (a really, really good one at that) and make it easy to take action on them.

Even if the ref is telling him his pads are off and he needs to get off the field, then you need to throw a flag/call a timeout there. He simply pushed Bush aside, set his ass down, and then didn't do a thing afterwards.
I hope Harbaugh and co. send this to the conference and this guy gets an earful.

Okay, because I think things are getting lost in the entirety of the comments...
- This was not a Sun Belt crew. It was a B1G mixed with MAC crew.
- The poster below is probably correct in that the official was telling Bush to get off the field because of a kneepad violation (which is apparently a point of emphasis this year). That said, this is 100% incompetent. If the ref is that concerned, he needs to stop play and tell Bush to leave, allowing M to substitute.
- To the person who posted the video from the '16 Ohio State game, I hate you, because it reminded me of how egregious the officiating was in that game.

Wow I’ve never seen anything like this. Where do they find these refs?
