Semi OT - A crack in the dam? Texas A&M transfer narcs on program to get waiver

This is interesting.

EXCLUSIVE: Allegations in former Texas A&M player's transfer waiver draws NCAA scrutiny to Jimbo Fisher's staff https://t.co/tjzDsSBVlG via @usatoday

The allegations include considerable extra "voluntary" offseason work that was mandatory, coaches supervising "optional" stuff, etc. And, something of a biggie, a coach providing cash to the player to host unofficial visits.

What's interesting, though, isn't that there are allegations against Texas A&M. I doubt they've ever been clean. What's interesting is that a player is airing the dirty laundry in order to get a waiver to be eligible to play right away. Also interesting: He is transferring to Arizona, which is where Kevin Sumlin, his old coach, is now in place.

I doubt that there are many schools where there aren't little violations like this. What could be interesting is if transfers regularly use such allegations to get waivers to play right away.

With all of the issues that get drummed up every offseason, I wonder if we aren't approaching a point where the dam breaks and all of the corrupt underbelly of college football isn't disemboweled for all to see. It would, no doubt, hurt the entire sport, including us, but it may need to happen.

If transfers start pulling this stuff out, it may happen quickly.

Have to say that I just got through watching Jimbo for years in Tallahassee, defending Jameis Winston, talking his lame stuff, and it still blows my mind that a punk-a** wiener who looks and talks like that is so highly-regarded. College football--love my Michigan though I do--might be the most seriously f'd up institution in this country, and that's saying something. I will be tickled pink if he screws the pooch so quickly in College Station.

I don't know about "disemboweling" the whole thing, but it may make the transfer process change.

"It would, no doubt, hurt the entire sport, including us, but it may need to happen. "

May?

Of course it needs to happen.

Moreover, while it would hurt us (even assuming we're innocent (I hope and believe)), PSU is the proof that such pain would be incredibly short-lived.  They allowed the commitment of what should be the worst sin of any school on any level can commit, and yet...   5 years afterward, they recruited a once-in-a-decade talent and played in the playoff for the NC, and show no outward signs now of ill effect.

Pull the bandaid, as soon as humanly possible!!!  Even if it costs "legendary" coaches, even if it costs "bluechip" programs.  The sport can ONLY be better for it.

If he filed these claims in order to be able to play immediately, wouldn't the NCAA have to investigate the matter to determine if these things actually occurred before granting his waiver? If so, not much of a chance this is cleared up in time for him to play this year anyway.
