Ticket Giveaway for the WMU game

BUMPING SO MORE PEOPLE ARE AWARE - LSA

What: Four 40 yard line tickets to the WMU game on 9/8. I'll give away two pairs of tickets.

Story: These season tickets have been in my family since the 1920s when my grandfather attended Michigan. My Dad - George Martin - also a Michigan alumnus, has attended games since the 1950s. I have gone to games since 1990, but now I live in New York and generally only get out to a single game each year. He is now, unfortunately, living with Alzheimers and can no longer attend games. To celebrate my father and fathers in general, I've decided to donate or gift most of my tickets for the coming years on his behalf. The MGoBlog community will be the recipient of tickets to one of the games each year.

Requirements and Rules:
1) You attend the game with your father OR you are a father and attend with your son or daughter.
2) If you win, you make a donation to NAMI: The National Alliance on Mental Illness, a cause important to my father and our family. Donate whatever you feel comfortable with.
3) Enter by replying on this thread. Deadline is midnight at the end of Friday, August 17th.
4) One entry per person.
5) I'll use a random number generator to pick two winners of two tickets each and announce those winners in the thread at noon on Saturday.
6) Winners will have 24 hours to acknowledge that they see they've won.

I'm not sure the best way to get the tickets to the winners. Please post if you have a good way to do that. Worst case, I'll just post my phone or email and we'll move forward that way.

Would be nice to make the drive from Milwaukee with the 3 kids and the lady, probably would be more difficult to figure out how to get wheelchair seating for our 7 year, but regardless very generous offer.  Been to the spring game with the kids and family but never a real game. Eventually that will happen, especially for my son.

This is a really cool idea. I wish I could go to one more game with my father, but his general health and his advanced Parkinson's severely limits what we can realistically do together at this point. As complex as my relationship with my father has been, sports is one thing that we still do share.

I'll link this thread in my own bookmarks bar and try to put it back to the top of the list on Saturday for you.

I specifically decline entry; if I am drawn please select someone else, as I will not be able to attend the WMU game (unfortunately, wrong week of the fall. Maybe later this fall, maybe).

But I wanted to pipe in and say that this is a great idea. Experiencing football as a parent and child is a great experience and includes many prized memories that I've shared with my father. I appreciate you doing this.

*not an entry*

This is very cool of you.  I am sorry to hear about the challenges your father is facing (as well as the rest of your family), this is an inspired tribute.

This is the reason why I come to this blog. It’s a community. While I have no interest in your tickets, just moved to California. Just wanted to say I think it’s a very cool thing you are doing.

Oh and Fuck Alzheimer’s, with a capital F.

Thanks for your generosity. Hope you and your family are coping and it seems you already found a way to make a positive impact even with what you are going through. I have worked closely with NAMI for years and I continue to do so. They do incredible work. I would love to take my son to the game.

I'd love to take my dad to a game. He used to take me to the games growing up, but unfortunately life has gotten in the way and he hasn't been to a game in years.

I've never been to a game even though I've had tickets to a couple as something with the family always seems to pop up - neither has my father (he's a Hoosier) or my 11 year old son.  We have moved all over the country working for the DOD but would gladly make the drive up from central KY for a game on the day before my 42nd Bday.  Good luck to everyone!

Great idea and great post.   I do not recall seeing an offer like this before, but I love it and think you may be onto something.  Kudos.  Take me out of the running as I have my own tickets.  I hope your offer generates interest in the cause and leads to a great day with another father and son.

I'm sorry to hear that your dad will no longer be able to use the tickets. You're incredibly generous to donate them to the MGoBlog community. I make it back from the west coast for one game a year and will be taking my son to his 4th annual game this fall. We would be honored to share your seats and donate to NAMI in your dad's name.

Alzheimer's is something we're dealing with on my wife's side. Her Grandpa, Korean War Vet, is the nicest man I know. Before his Alzheimers was getting worse, he told me something that I will never forget. Long story short, my grandfather (father side) passed away when I was in diapers and my other grandfather lives in West Virginia (never comes up to visit). I told my wife's grandfather that I don't have any grandfather's left in my family. He said, "You have me, son. You'll always have me.". Anywho, I think what you're doing, OP, is fantastic. Go Blue!

What a wonderful gesture, and glad that you have many Big House memories with your father.

My own father is getting into his 70's, so I've started to make a concerted effort to go to a couple games every year with him... at least Sept/Oct games, The Game is too cold for him now!\.

Sorry to hear that your dad will no longer be able to use the tickets. My dad has raised my brothers and I to be Michigan fans while living in Alabama, so we don’t get to visit or attend games very much. He hasn’t been to the Big House since he lived in Michigan as a teenager. I would love to take him back for the WMU game and make a donation to NAMI.

Thanks for the opportunity, would love to get my dad to a game.  He's 65 and has never been to the big house, but turned my brothers and all into diehard fans.

Allow me to submit my entry. My brother and I have taken our boys to one game a year the last two years and I was just looking for WMU tickets since that’s the only game we would all be available. I would also love to donate regardless.

Sorry about your father, my grandmother had Alzheimer's and it stinks.  I would take my son if I won and try to win him over on football, he isn't as fond of it yet - he likes videogames.....

P.S.  That is awesome that your family has had the tickets since the 1920s.

If I get these I’m bringing both my 9 & 5 year old daughter to their first games ever!  They asked me to go to a game finally this year, didn’t want to push, was hoping my fandom would rub off on them, and it worked!

This is very cool. I've always wanted to go to a game with my dad, but it just hasn't happened yet. Hats off to you, and best wishes to you and your father.

This is such a great idea! I have been wanting to take my 7 year old to his first game at the big house. Thank you for the opportunity.
