CBS Sports: UM v ND preview

Submitted by 5th and Long on

Video preview of UM v. ND opening game.

  • Pretty vanilla, but both pick Michigan despite ND being a 2.5 pt favorite.
  • Simmon's noted that at B1G media days Jim Harbaugh faced a ton of questions about the lack of beating ranked teams and rivals.
  • They think that if UM loses, it could mean JH could feel his seat get warmer.
  • Barton Simmons calls Michigan a "dark horse national title/CFP team."

So, if UM loses the opener to ND is Harbaugh on the hot seat?

If hot seat means at risk of being fired, I don't think any record on the field would be bad enough.  I'm not saying success is guaranteed; I am saying switching coaches (again) would be no more likely to succeed than simply riding with Harbaugh to whatever record he reaches.

We've had two failed coaching hires in a row. Neither of those outcomes was likely. It's hard to imagine how a coaching prospect could be better suited to coach Michigan than Harbaugh, and we have every reason to think he will succeed. If he can't do it, it's not the coaching; it's something about us. There's no point to looking at someone other than him. If the best he can produce is Kirk Ferentz results, that's our ceiling.

My wife and I went to the ND game in 2006 the year before we were married.  Stomped Brady Quinn and that damn leprechaun 47-21.  Prescott Burgess with the pick 6 early!  "It's great to be a Michigan Wolverine" echoed on their concourse... hard to put in words how awesome that was.

My wife got me tickets to this year's game for Fathers Day.  We're gonna be singing it again!  This D is gonna put Wimbush's head on a spike.
