Walk ons Cut from football team--WHY?
A friend's son walked on to the team and was told he was on the team. He went through spring practice and has been in the weight room with everyone else, and then, last week, he and a number of others were simply told they were no longer on the team. This does not sound like Harbaugh's normal way of doing things. Can anyone explain this to me. Not surprisingly, the kid (and the others) is devastated.
Justin Meram...the MLS soccer player?
Yeah, he was one our last hopes of having a good kicker. The video has been deleted but many years ago there was one on youtube of him at Glick hitting 60 yard field goals.
Michigan Soccer legend played spring football and wore #38.

There are only so many spots for Walk-Ons, and if someone shows up who is better, you will probably lose your spot. But don't give up hope, just keep working hard, working on things you need to learn, and try out again for the team.
Harbaugh has repeatedly stated he runs his football team as a meritocracy. There are only so many spots on the team. The competition to remain on Harbaugh's team continues throughout the year. As new players join the team, some others will inevitably lose their spots. No player, particularly a walk-on, should expect that because they were told that they survived a cut to "be on the team" that they are assured a spot going forward.
Hopefully, with the passage of time your friend's son will get over his disappointment and be grateful for the opportunity to participate as part of the team and the wonderful experiences he enjoyed as a result.
I assume your friend's son will be asked back once the school year starts and the 105/110 roster limit is not applicable anymore. That's just a guess, and I get that it must suck to be told you can't be around anymore, but this also feels like a situation that was probably communicated to the walk-ons. Maybe it wasn't made clear.
Harbaugh is also torturing puppies and skinning kittens to sell their fur for drug money, from what I understand.
How could he???
Skinning kittens is great - do what you gotta do - but puppies??? Not puppies!
oldblue: Sorry your friend's son is disappointed. FYI, Harbaugh has plenty of enemies. They don't need PR assistance. Kindly consider your wording before posting again.
I was looking for information and figured, as I usually do, that this is the best place to get it.
Does Dr Mantis have any insight? IIRC, he was a walk on albeit under a different regime.
I am OUTRAGED over this perceived injustice. This is simply not fair. We are DEVASTATED. This is life or death.
Is that how its done these days?
Let’s not pile on the kid. The drama & confusion might very well have been added by the parent telling the story to the OP. It’s the old “telephone game”.
My comment was more to the psychology of the nation than it was about the kid. I understand being disappointed but it seems that outrage and hyperbole are the order of the day and its rather nauseating.
Probably needed the spot for some legacy kid. Happens in all walks of life. Some donors kid wanted on the team and his daddy donates more than the other kids daddy.
Womp womp
We have a couple of prior walk-ons that are on this board. I am surprised that they didn't chime in on this thread.
