Meyer flips ND commit Decker

Recruiting is only a small portion of the battle, I still think Hoke and the staff are much better coaches.

Does hoke have 2 rings? come on, lets take off the michigan goggles for a second. Hoke is a good coach, but he hasnt done what meyer has. It is scary to think about what this guy will do in a whole year recruiting, and he doesnt have a bowl game to get ready for next year, we do. Keep in mind he is used to recruiting against other scum bags down south. besides us and ND there isint much competition up here for recruiting....

Don't be such a scared little pussy! Our coaches will hold their own no problem.

Mattison recruited Tebow. I would have to say a lot of the success of that team was tied to Tim Tebow. The other great recruits were tied to Dan Mullen and other staff members. Not saying that Urban isn't a great recruiter, but I think our staff is better.

If this class didn't pretty much fill up 5 months ago and we were still pulling in a recruit every few weeks, nobody would be this worried. Our class is amazing, but because Meyer is landing talent right now and Michigan isn't, everybody thinks it's the end of the world. He hasn't won a recruiting battle against Hoke yet (I refuse to consider him keeping Dunn as a victory. The fact that Michigan was able to get such serious interest from him says a lot.)

Meyer sold him on the fact that he would still be able to lose to michigan.

now they have 1 more slot available or will there be medical redshirts and other SEC style shenanigans to come out of Columbus.

Hes already released 3 players from scholarship this weekend none being starters.

One was a DUI, one beat his girlfriend, and I'm not sure who the third one you're talking about is.
Meanwhile, is Stonum still on scholarship?

I am not a fan of either school's football team, however having visited both campuses and considering the academics, culture, value of degree, etc...how do you vision yourself going to ND and then change to tsio. Apples and oranges.
glad to know he is making his choice based on things other than the football team and coaches...hope those coaches stay there for him for the 4-5 yrs he will be there./s

Greg Mattison is the best D cordinator in the country so Fickel (spelling) and the UNC guy can suck it.

He was never interested in Michigan so this is of deminimus interest to me but 6'8 300 lbs with nimble feet? nice pickup...

According to the recruiting gurus at NDNation, Decker sucks and they're glad to have this dead weight out of their class. Although I didn't bother to check back furter and see what they said about him when he was a commit.
/how can such a good school have such dumb fans?

Did you get to the stuff about the Bros. Armstead canceling this out?
January 15th, 2012 at 8:55 PM ^
The Bros. Armstead are on campus as we speak. Well atleast Dad & USC Bro. While it sucks to lose Decker, OL was not a need in this class.
January 15th, 2012 at 8:31 PM ^
Take him, I don't care. We got Hoke and thats all we need.

These "flips" don't feel as much coups by Meyer as somewhat inevitable changes by kids loosely committed to the other teams. I mean, nobody expected Pittman to stay at State, and PSU has been a tire fire. Heck, UM might flip Reeves for the same reason.
As for Decker, Meyer hired his main contacts at ND, and so I'm not that surprised he shipped over.
What will be interesting to see is how Meyer handles recruiting in the next year or two with the bowl sanctions and the natural competition between Big 10 schools for recruits. Meyer had a similar "home state" advantage in Florida because of the local talent, but even there his last couple of recruiting classes were not nearly as impressive as his earlier ones. He seems like a good recruiter who relies heavily on his assistants and coordinators to pull in kids (this seems true for most coaches to vary extents), so I am intrigued to see how he does when his staff is fully assembled and other coaches "know" who they are going up against.

has not snagged any true Michgan men tells you something. They are smart and they don't have tats.

Meyer must have stolen RichRod's Wizard Hat!

OSU snake oil < Michigan snake oil

I thought Buckeye fan reaction to Brady Hoke's excellent first recruiting class at Michigan was silly - most Buckeye fans said that Hoke was a joke and that his recruiting was only a result of the turmoil at tOSU and that things would return to "normal" in 2012. Normal is now proven to include excellent recruiting at UM and a fine coaching staff headed by Hoke.
Comments by Wolverine fans who are depreciating Urban Meyer's recruiting this winter are similarly silly. Game on. This great series will once again dominate the B1G.
