Sugar Bowl Mgohappyhour Meet-up in New Orleans
First, I just want to say how cool it has been to get to interact with so many people on this board over the last few weeks. We really have a great group of people here and I think I speak for everyone when I say that the people here are a big part of why I love Michigan football.
A few of you have asked if there would be a good place for a happy hour/meetup on the second and I meant to get this up earlier, but I've been swamped at work. Better late than never, so if anyone is still on the board and going to NOLA, I will be at Cooter Browns tomorrow, January 2nd, from 11-3ish to, among other things, watch Sparty faceplant on national television. Directions to get to cooter browns can be found online at cooter brown's website or in the NOLA document I made (see below). Great meeting so many awesome people through this, hope I get to meet up with a few of you in person, and GO BLUE!!

MGoUsers need some kind of secret handshake or something, cause I'm sure there will be quite a few Blue fans who don't read MGoBlog

Instead of a handshake, how about doing the "Denard" feasting motion...ha ha ha ha

From the Sheraton to the French Quarter, I think you're looking at $30-$40 each way. That's a guesstimate of course. As for how easy cabs are to get, it really depends on the time of night, etc. but there are a number of cabs in New Orleans and it generally isnt a problem.

I can say that that is correct. I took cabs back and forth from Kenner (right by Metarie) Friday night and it was about $33 plus tip both ways. In fact, the return trip at 4 in the morning was a flat rate of $33, and that's what the first cab driver said is common. It's about a 25 minute drive, and there was no problem getting the cab to come out to the suburbs or find one off of Bourbon Street.
jlvanals, thank you for everything you've done to help us. I have been here for 3 days already, and I am still working my way down your list. It has been awesome.

Since you mentioned not walking... what's it going to be like between the Superdome and the Courtyard Marriott (St. Charles and Canal) after the game? Will I need a cab or will there be enough M fans walking back to make it safe?
January 1st, 2012 at 6:29 PM ^
Should be fine. Especially before and after the game. Wouldn't make the walk at a random time though.
January 1st, 2012 at 11:09 PM ^
You might as well walk. It's about a ten to fifteen minute walk to your hotel from the Superdome.

The walk he discourages is basically the Quarter to beyond the overpass I.e. the garden district. Superdome down poydras to canal hotels is fine

My brother and I plan on making a stop. There are some rather nice go-go ladies that stage/pole dance in the club casino.

We had dinner tonight at the Commander's Palace. Pricey, but very nice. We took the St. Charles Streetcar in both directions. Get on/off at Washington.
Hope to see you at Cooters tomorrow!

there sporting my "Michigan Softball" T shirt. See you all there.
jlvanals? Any suggestions for parking?
January 1st, 2012 at 11:05 PM ^
Parking at cooters is easy. It's residential area, so you can park right there, or on the levee next to the bar.
January 1st, 2012 at 11:07 PM ^
the advice. Trying to find a place to park in the Quarter tonight was a biatch.
January 2nd, 2012 at 1:47 AM ^
Just park along the train tracks. You'll be fine

On the flight down some guy pulled out a packet asking for advice and without seeing your guide I guessed that it was it. Sure enough page 5 mentions "mgouser so-and-so" - well done

I don't get it. Even the wisco dude in the corner isn't rooting for Sparty and joined the 'fuck Ohio' chant.
