Hawaii Bowl Open Thread
I am creating this a little early because I still have some gift wrapping to accomplish, but I should be back here to man the thread (as if I had to work at it) around 8 PM.
It's that vaunted Nevada vs. Southern Miss rivalry in the Sheraton Hawaii Bowl, and for those of us at home with little else to do but wrap gifts on Christmas Eve, a football game is the perfect thing to at least listen to.
Further, LSAClassOf2000 and his MGoFamily wish everyone Happy Holidays and much prosperity in the new year. I've had a lot of fun here this past year, and I look forward to many more.

I could only make it on the mobile, and that doesn't show up on the Board page, just the front page, so early is better than partially invisible.

very confident S.Miss will win
December 24th, 2011 at 8:12 PM ^
EDIT: Both fans showed up for this one!
DOUBLE EDIT: Nevada moved the ball about a foot on the first drive. Exciting offensive antics ensue.
December 24th, 2011 at 9:17 PM ^
But that's a hell of an opening shot.
December 24th, 2011 at 8:07 PM ^
I'm home at my mom's place and her and my sister just put on reruns of NCIS. There is an excess of booze in the house, however, so this open thread should at least be fun before the mother goes to her jacuzzi and my sister opens a book or something.

The stadium is full of empty seats. I'd estimate 75% empty (atleast). Both universities will probably lose money on the game.
December 24th, 2011 at 9:26 PM ^
that they ever had a chance?
December 24th, 2011 at 8:15 PM ^
...attempts a 50-yard FG, only to have it go wide Maui before nearly hooking back into the uprights. Nothing doing on first drives here.
December 24th, 2011 at 8:17 PM ^
This is suprisingly entertaining. Southern Miss was kicking with the wind, correct?
December 24th, 2011 at 8:33 PM ^
....one hell of a wind for half the offense to get a false start there.
EDIT: Awesome throw by the Nevada QB....great laser to the Southern Miss linebacker.
HOLY SH*T EDIT: NICE PUNT FAKE!
December 24th, 2011 at 8:28 PM ^
I'm on island and it's been windy as hell this past week. Should make for an interristing game.
December 24th, 2011 at 8:31 PM ^
Cotton with the endzone interception!
December 24th, 2011 at 8:56 PM ^
Two plays after that, first down, then intentional grounding. The Southern Miss offense is at best a bipolar one.
EDIT: The Southern Miss defense, however, can apparently bring it now and again. Nice defensive TD.
December 24th, 2011 at 8:53 PM ^
But not with two nothing teams on Christmas Eve.

And with that...defensive TD.
December 24th, 2011 at 8:53 PM ^
Punt block and TD!
December 24th, 2011 at 9:03 PM ^
Am I the only one who tapes all the bowl games every year? I've been taping them since back in 1996. Lemme amend that. I attempt to tape all the games.
December 24th, 2011 at 9:14 PM ^
Ever watch any of them after you taped them?
December 24th, 2011 at 9:16 PM ^
I have watched most of them after the fact. As a matter of fact I was just recently watching the 2007 Fiesta bowl.(OU vs. Boise)
December 24th, 2011 at 9:19 PM ^
But it must get harder and harder as we go to a digital/HD age.

TD Nevada.
December 24th, 2011 at 9:21 PM ^
Was cleaning out my basement the other day and ended up ditching about 50 or so video tapes of various games that I've accumulated through the years. Figured between YouTube and ESPN Classic there wasn't much need to hold onto them any longer.
December 24th, 2011 at 9:26 PM ^
But it got tough to take the time to transfer Vs. EMU to tape, and with it all HD now, I only do the big one's I may want to see what BTN or Classics cut out.

This year I think Western (Brady's first, weird weather), ND, Nebraska and OSU. Rewatched the home games, but less of the road.
December 24th, 2011 at 10:29 PM ^
Can you make me a copy of the ND and Ohio game? Lol
December 24th, 2011 at 9:18 PM ^
...football > No college football. Hate the marketing, still love bowl season!
December 24th, 2011 at 9:54 PM ^
...that was an OK return, Nevada.
Maybe the need to learn the "HOLD ONTO THE DAMN BALL" lesson?
EDIT: I am pretty sure that trying to strip the receiver of his clothes counts as holding, yes...
DOUBLE EDIT: My god, Nevada's defense is going to Zeno's Paradox the Eagles to death with holding calls......and then, TD Southern Miss plus a mean left hook
TRIPLE EDIT: 17-14 Southern Miss at halftime. Both teams are back in their corners for the time being.
December 24th, 2011 at 11:29 PM ^
...about the LSA bit. My sincere and astonished congratulations for referencing Zeno's Paradoxes. I'd buy you a beer or three if you were here right now.
About Southern Miss: They're not looking to good tonight. But against Houston, they looked absolutely dominant. It could be that they're 1) not that good at all and just had a good game against Houston 2) not that good but Houston is a steaming pile of crap, or 3) They've had a letdown after a monumental win. Lethargy perhaps?
December 24th, 2011 at 11:43 PM ^
December 24th, 2011 at 11:56 PM ^
So what you're saying is that option four is any of the three options you've depicted?
December 24th, 2011 at 9:59 PM ^
I'm just glad both teams got to fistfight eachother on Christmas Eve, I know it really got me feeling all warm about the holidays...
December 24th, 2011 at 10:27 PM ^
Second xtreme field goal miss for So Miss
December 24th, 2011 at 10:42 PM ^
Could I get more balls bounced off the receivers' hands?
December 24th, 2011 at 10:45 PM ^
this is definitely the sloppiest bowl game of the year
December 24th, 2011 at 11:46 PM ^
You RUN with the PASSING quarterback! Of course!
Although, Nevada ties it on the FG. Southern Miss runs into the kicker. All is well in the "stupid penalties" department here.
EDIT: Not making a new comment for it, but 24-17 Southern Miss is your final.
December 24th, 2011 at 11:00 PM ^
So Miss's best play is the throwaway. Nevada keeps running against stacked boxes and also can't throw.
December 24th, 2011 at 11:33 PM ^
would dictate you go for this 4th and 1 with 4:00 and change to go
