Class of the Nebraska Team

Submitted by LJ on

I know it's Ohio week and Nebraska is in the rearview mirror, but after re-watching the every snap videos, I'm once again very impressed by the class of the Nebraska team.  I can't recall any other team in the last few years we've played that so frequently helped our players off the ground after a tackle, acknowledged our good plays, and generally carried themselves in a way that the B1G should be proud off.  When our players ran out of bounds on the Nebraska sideline, they would get a tap on the helmet from one of the Nebraska coaches.  It's especially impressive in a game in which I'm sure the entire team was very frustrated.  I've had the same experience with Nebraska fans I've met.  After the MSU game, it was quite a breath of fresh air.  Thanks, Huskers, for doing it the right way.  I look forward to a long and competitve rivalry.

I too was impressed with the Nebraska team and coaches.  They played the game like too few do today.  I wish more teams could play with competitive fire without making complete asses of themselves.  Looking at you, Sparty...

I posted about this in the open thread on gameday, I was very impressed with that too. I liked how they would stick it to you then help you up, this is the way the game should be played. I noticed our guys doing the same in return, I loved how Denard and Teo did it in the UTL game too. It shows dignity and respect. I get so sick of seeing a guy tackle someone then want praised for it. That is one of the reasons I hate the NFL.

kewl thread to post.  with all the garbage spewed about in college football it is nice to hear some positive stuff once in a while.

sportsmanship:  its a place we all should start.

Not to detract from the positivity of the thread too much, as I agree that most Nebraska fans I've run into -- especially the ones who travel to games -- have been very nice, but as a Colorado alum, I feel obligated to note that they are not always quite so classy (not that our players and fans haven't had their moments too).  An example from an SI story about the 1990 game:

"There were signs of residual ugliness from last year's contest, a 27-21 victory for the Buffaloes in Boulder as they rode a swell of emotion following the death from cancer of quarterback Sal Aunese. At the time, the Buffaloes had been enraged at remarks by Cornhusker linebacker Jeff Mills, who implied that Colorado was using the tragedy to its advantage. This year, motorists from Colorado were treated to this tasteless piece of graffiti painted across two lanes of Interstate 80 just beyond the state line: SAL IS DEAD. GO BIG RED."
