Semi-OT: Michigan Football, Detroit Tigers, and Detroit Red Wings play at same time

Submitted by kman23 on

So I was just going over my sports schedule this weekend and noticed this:

Michigan Football: 7pm EST

Detroit Tigers: 8pm EST

Detroit Red Wings: 9pm EST

Really? We have to have all three teams play at the same time?

I understand Michigan sets its schedule before either the Wings or Tigers and the Wings have to play an evening game after playing the night before, so why can't the Tigers play at 3:30pm? Anyone else frustrated with the scheduling?

Game 1 of the ALCS has been scheduled to be broadcast on Fox at 7:30 pm since about July 2010, when they set the schedule for the 2011 playoffs.

They are not rescheduling a broadcast they set 15 months ago with 1 day notice, especially since an enormous number of affiliates around the nation would refuse to air a network show Saturday afternoon with 1 day notice--they have already sold commercial time for their local broadcasts.

With use of a DVR, you eliminate conflict.

I'd watch the Michigan game, at least until it was so well in hand it was garbage time. Would probably stiill watch it then.

The Tigers, you DVR, and skip through all the breaks between innings, pitching changes, etc., etc., etc. My guess is you'll be caught up to real time well before the end of the game. This way, you get to watch the two important games in their entirety.

Red Wings, 2nd regular season game, lose out. I'd have a TV/Radio/Computer on in the background, or more likely, just miss the game.

I will watch our game, without even a second thought, and won't turn over to the Tigers until after our game is over--as for the Wings, I won't even flip to that channel during commercials.

Consider yourselves lucky back in the States. Here in Switzerland it's:

Michigan Football: 1AM

Detroit Tigers: 2AM

Detroit Red Wings: 3AM

And unfortunately the Zurich Hooters will be closed.  Thank God for Slingbox.

Its not that big of a deal. Especially since I only watch hockey in the playoffs, one down two to go. Michigan football starts a good hour before the baseball game. Michigan is playing Northwestern so my interest is a little down this week.

Ultimately I'll watch the first half of the Michigan game and then switch to playoff baseball. Simple.

Ok not really I'm just an Avs fan. Funny how of all the teams I cheer for theres always a subset of that fanbase that cheers for a team I dislike.

Michigan fan - hate the Red Wings

Cubs fan - hate the Bears and Blackhawks

Saints fan - dislike LSU

Avalanche fan - dislike the Bronocos

Knicks fan (kind of) - dislike most every other team in NY
