Another expansion topic? (ND and UT Rumor)
Didn't see this posted.
Northwestern Rivals message board post
Yes, I am referencing a message board post from the NW Rivals site. Hence the RUMOR in the title, but this guy seems at least a little bit more credible than a random troll.
The gist of the article:
Earlier this evening, Notre Dame and Texas jointly presented the Big Ten Conference with their proposed terms of entry into the conference. These terms resulted from lengthy discussions among both schools and the Big Ten over the past several months.

While TAMU hates being in Texas' shadow, Baylor seems content to be a remora living on Texas' ample belly. I wonder if they would threaten to sue Texas, too?

If the Big Ten did invite Texas and ND to join, don't all the current schools have to vote them in? I have a hard time seeing Nebraska voting yes to allow Texas into the Big Ten.

I have a hard time believing that Texas and ND are dictating terms to Jim Delany as he watches his own TV network while sitting atop his gigantic pile of money

Read the blog entry, Texas and ND made a joint proposal to the B1G, that sure is not dictating.......Means ongoing negotiations on a potential merger (to use a business phrase appropriate here) are taking place. Both sides have to determine what they have to have and where they might be able to compromise to see if a deal can be worked out that makes sense to all parties. Looks to me that Delany is playing this strategically, has been all along, and continues to move forward and open doors to see what is available and inside without the overally public drama associated with Pac-12 or SEC.....Because he knows what he has in terms of strengths that others do not and what he and the B1G can bring to the table for potential expansion candidates that others cannot (i.e.: research money, B1G network, history, tradition, et al).....B1G knows who the prizes are that fit and are working on them to see if something that makes sense can be developed.....

It would be a sensible proposal, and I'd be in favor of it, but I don't believe this rumor.
The whole B12 scenario is so utterly weird right now that I have a hard time believing that anything like this is about to happen.
Who's the supposed source?

He floated this rumor last summer. Move along.

Fuck Notre Dame.
Sorry, had to be said.

or as Bo would say, "To hell with Notre Dame".

It's very hard for me to picture Texas, which refused an equitable revenue-sharing deal in the Big 12, to suddenly accept it here.

This is all premised on the Big 12 falling apart. If that happens, their existing deal goes down the tubes. Both the Pac-12 and the Big Ten share revenue equitably. Neither will accept Texas on the terms the Big 12 did. Either they swallow hard and share the wealth, or they go independent.
Independence presents a number of problems. For one thing, it means they lose their auto-bid to the BCS if they win their conference, because they aren’t in a conference.
More importantly, they would need a home for their olympic sports. No major conference will accept Texas as a member without football, and it would be a pretty significant come-down to put the rest of their sports in a second-tier league.

For what it’s worth, Pete Thamel of The New York Times tweeted a short while ago: “There’s a Texas-ND-Big Ten email/blog/conspiracy theory floating around. It’s not true. Not even close.”

ALL RUMORS ON THE INTERNET ARE 100% TRUE PERIOD. This means Texas will be in three different conferences next year while simultaneously being independent.
September 8th, 2011 at 8:09 PM ^
I think they should form their own conference and just, you know, fuck off and leave the rest of the NCAA alone.
September 8th, 2011 at 11:21 PM ^
Are we really certain that we want these two teams in a conference? Both ND and Texas deserve to be independent. Look at what Texas has done to the Big 12. That's what ND would do to the B10. Having both of them...could be the start of the apocalypse!

I agree, I really don't want anything to do with either or them. The only positive I can take from expansion is a chance to re do the division make up and put us and Ohio back in the same division.
