Michigan Hockey YouTube Nostalgia
So I am browsing the celebration threads last night, and I noticed something Bando Calrissian said that surprised me: There are no highlights of the 1996 National Championship game or 1998 National Championship game (except the Langfeld goal) on YouTube. I never searched since I made highlight clips of each game in the past. So I decided to channel my inner WolverineHistorian and post them on youtube. The quality is not the best since they were originally formatted for my ipod, but they should do a decent job.

1998: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V2TimxRQasY
(I am hung over from celebrating in St.Paul and suck at embedding, so someone please help if you want them embedded lol)
I really have to learn how to do this
Two of my favorite sports moments of all time! On a side note, it's fantastic hearing Gary Thorne call hockey on ESPN during the Frozen Four, I miss his enthusiasm....
Were you listening to the commentary last night? I thought Gary Thorne was being paid by UND to hype their team. Hilariously one-sided commentary. I thought that Michigan was losing by four goals, listening to those commentators.
It was a very pro UND broadcast, but it's his style that I like more than the substance. I remember watching hockey during the 2006 olympics between two no name countries and he still had incredible enthusiasm everytime one of them scored.
I used to be a big fan of Throne, but the man can't pronounce any names correctly. It's beyond annoying.
Thorne definitely didn't have his "A" game last night. Besides mangling the names, he didn't bother to tell us what the penalty calls were -- pretty bad when you have to listen to the PA announcer in the background to figure out who's in the box and what for.
Thorne was bad but I thought Melrose was awful!! All he did was talk about how big and fast UND was. Also thanks for the video clips!
AWESOME videos...thank you!
Thank you for this
forgot how friggin nuts Turco made me.. dude was either an all-star or a bonehead in every single play.
Thank you SO MUCH for posting these! It's the first I've been able to see of the games. This has got me so pumped for Saturday.
Thank you fo channeling your inner me. Those were fun to watch.
I had the 98 title game on tape but lost it (or accidently taped over it) years ago. Our fans look dangerously outnumbered in that game against BC, much like last night.
In a 5 month span, we were national champions in football and hockey. The basketball team won the Big Ten tournament and the Red Wings won another Stanley Cup. Good times!
any time I can reach for my inner WolverineHistorian...I think I accomplished something good.
i've been wanting to have these forever
Yeah this is exactly what I wanted. +1's all around.
i really want to see highlights of the michigan-north dakota game from 1998. hockeyblue9 has the 4 michigan goals up in separate videos but i'd love to see one full highlight of that game
but the VHS was extremely worn out, so basically my highlight package includes most of goals and called off goals with the 4 michigan goals that were posted seperatly online. I can email it to you, but the quality is not good enough to warrent being posted on youtube.
I really enjoyed that appreciate you posting!
i actually have a copy of the game on my laptop but i lack the video editing skills to do anything with it. don't know if there's a feasbile way to get it to you
I will gladly edit it. I really want a better copy of it. I was talking with a friend of mine who knows alot more about this than me. If you create a free account on rapidshare, you can upload the video clip there and I can download it from the website, If you want to try it let me know, I will keep checking the thread to see if you are in...
There were highlight VHS tapes produced for both the 1996 and 1998 seasons, and if you scrounge around Ann Arbor enough, they pop up from time to time. I found both of them at the AA Library book sale about a year ago, they're well done and a total nostalgia trip for those of us who were around back then. They were up on MGoVideo for a while, I think. Maybe someone could up them again? My copies aren't with me right now, or else I'd do it.
It's amazing, even though those teams were loaded with top-shelf talent, how much college hockey has changed in 15 years. The skill level and speed is just so much different. Also, gotta love seeing bits of ragged pre-renovation Yost, too.
When we've all recovered from the latest dong-punch to befall Michigan Nation, we should upload highlights of Michigan's 2-0 victory over mighty North Dakota.
