As someone who's stupid on hockey but loves watching it (especially when it's M hockey) I really appreciate these breakdowns. Thanks, great work and please keep it going

Clearly, Hoke will be hired as the next HC, and Brandon will be hired as his "assistant-deputy"

UTL I, with Ohio State and Nebraska from that season being 2 and 3. Nebraska because I thought "wow we're good again!"

A loss to Mizzou would be bad. I think there's a better chance of Miss St making it than a Bama outfit that lost to Mizzou. Honestly I think you'd see the SEC be left out in that situation unless there's carnage across the top six.

Quarterback is an important position, probably the most important on the field/team regardless of what team you're talking about from the HS level on up. But a quarterback isn't like a goalie in hockey, or a star player in basketball, or even a pitcher in baseball. He is very important, and it's incredibly hard to quantify the importance of any player on a team. But qualitatively, if Meyer has two "Heisman" quarterbacks on the team, there's a good chance their performances have something to do with the other 10+ guys on the offensive rotation.

Also beating Oregon twice versus beating Ohio St is definitely a bigger set of scalps for Arizona

Wiscy lost a squeaker to a decent LSU and then lost to not bowling Northwestern. Zona lost a squeaker to a decent USC and then lost by ten to a very good UCLA. If it's me (and it's not), Arizona is a no-brainer over Wisconsin.

If Wiscy beats the #5 team this weekend they rocket up while the Rebels are idle.

Anybody else still rooting for chaos? Or is that trend done with the BCS?
|2 weeks 3 days ago||I completely agree. It's||
I completely agree. It's especially annoying because OSU runs a spread offense, and yet nobody would be up in arms about their ranking if their center went down, even though he has arguably as significant an impact on their offense's ability to execute

So I want to echo the sentiment that I sincerely feel for Hoke, but this is the right decision because he's not getting paid to be a nice guy.
My stupid (or obvious) question though: how did this go wrong? We did this for RR and the answer was easy (defense, cultural backlash, etc) but what was it for Hoke? In over his head explains the ST disasters and the Morris fiasco. Brandon micromanagement explains some of it. But how does a hands-off manager, who hires excellent coordinators and fills his team with talent, do such a poor job of winning football games and developing those players? Really what I'm asking is - how did Nuss do such a poor job with the offense, and how did Mattison never see the D take the step from "above average" to "good," let alone "great" or "elite?"

Thanks for your service to the University, Brady. You seemed like a nice guy, but you were not right for this program
|2 weeks 4 days ago||Baylor. Also this ridiculousness changes my mind||
I usually claim to "hate" conference title games and divisions and sometimes pontificate about how it's everything wrong with CFB and college sports. I never really minded the old co-champ days. But I'm finding myself incredibly annoyed at the B12 for this. I'd even be okay with them naming them co-champs but saying "since Baylor won the head-to-head, they have NY6 bowl bid if they don't make the CFP." Or if by some other determination you'd rather award TCU with the top spot, whatever. Tie breakers are always messy. But make some rules and stick with them and change them afterwards if everyone's annoyed about it - didn't we learn anything from the good ol' BCS?

|5 weeks 1 day ago||That is a really good point.||
That is a really good point. Harbaugh commented how in his time athletes were "persuaded" to take certain classes, and how disappointing would it be for Myron Rolle to be forced into a football curriculum? Studying communications turned out to be perfect for Desmond Howard, and I've always thought it made so much sense that so many athletes were drawn to movement sciences, since they were forced to learn so much about their bodies.

When I was in Japan, I regularly attended alumni association meet ups and had the privilege to meet a gymnast who graduated from the school or art and design. He was (and still is) a performer for Cirq du Soleil - apparently they recruit collegiate gymnasts. It seems that Michigan Athletics prepared him for his next career despite the fact that he wasn't a professional gymnast.

That went something like, "I know why he came back for his senior year - to be the Citrus Bowl MVP!"

With the BCS I used to always root for chaos. Not so sure I want it with this system just because I don't really want an expansion of the play off, but I guess it is inevitable.

That was definitely worse than this. He's basically saying "no comment," which is not a bad move especially as this hasn't been picked up by ESPN just yet.

Is there an SEC bias? Kinda, yes. What's the motivation? There is none. It formed naturally because they won seven straight national titles, performed well in out of conference play, and haven't gotten embarrassed like their biggest competitor has (the B1G).

I'm surprised to see Auburn so high considering their loss was a blowout. Although to a high ranked team.
|7 weeks 5 days ago||Perhaps this is naive, but I||
Perhaps this is naive, but I see this as one major point in favor of Michigan's culture. Obviously the feeling around here is that our athletic department is toxic, as are our alumni. And the "Michigan Man" meme backs up that assertion. But maybe we do some things smartly - like our powerful alums don't hold the school hostage to get their way.

I'm guessing 2012 - and only because we beat ND in 2013
|7 weeks 6 days ago||Agree with a caveat||
It depends on the level of asshole. If his asshole-ness is "I don't really care about a stupid stake and if he's butt hurt he can get over it," that's cool. If his asshole is being okay with his players twisting folks' necks, going after guy's knees or acting like buffoons off the field, then I disagree.

|7 weeks 6 days ago||Cumongman||
Are we really talking about how hard he's trying? Do you think Rich Rod wanted to lose? And John L all those years? And Cooper before that? I get that winning isn't everything - even in big time college football, there is something to be said for character building of student athletes. But I'm not going to feel bad for saying Hoke's performace has been bad and that it's unacceptable for this product on the field four years into his tenure. Let him try somewhere else.
|7 weeks 6 days ago||You're sorta right||
2008 was brutal to watch as it happened. But even then, we still didn't expect much more than a bowl. Yes Toledo was horrifying, but before the season if you'd tell me we wouldn't be bowling I would not have denied the truth of it - I just thought that "good things happen for Michigan" and we'd be all right. In 2014? I was thinking our floor was 7-5, that 8-4 or 9-3 were the most probable results, and that we might even have the talent to win the Big Ten. I was obviously wrong about my outlook, but I acttually still believe that we are talented enough to win the Big Ten.
So I gess while 2008 wasn't exactly expected or easy to deal with - it was still more so than this season.
