Congrats. . .but this should have been OT I would neg you for not making this an OT comment, but I think to many people jumped on you unfairly. Its good to be excited about things like this and since you're a member of the GO BLUE family I can see why you'd want to share it on this site. Congrats again - I wish him the best!
A couple of thigns i.) I think we'll be running a combo of 3-3-5 and 4-2-5; the learning gap between the two is not that significant IMO. ii.) I voiced this earlier (see video from first spring practice); Big Will was looking at the sky because he plays high, his technique is questionable, and his burst off the snap is not where it needs to be. In the M-Drill (again I'm not expecting the world, but I am expecting someone of Will's size to perform a basic bull rush) his feet weren't moving and he had no leverage. iii.) my later point suggests that Martin will be nose....and that maybe Will's just not ready to be a consistent down linemen yet. Martin can hold his own in a bull rush....hell he can probably benchpress the weight of the opposing o-line in its entirety! iv.) in a 3-3-5 I'm guessing you see the same DB's and maybe Roh/Martin/VB down, which with Will swithes to the 4-2-5 package. I know Roh practiced with the LB's so we could have a different end playing (i.e. Wilkins, etc.) v.) BIGGEST ISSUE: we had a crappy secondary last year, talent has improved but will be young. . . .athletic enough to cover but smart enough (due to youth) to run playbook?
Is it just me or does our team seem more injury prone under RichRod? I can't make an honest assessment as I don't think I stalked the team nearly as much as I do now (thank you mgoblog, google, etc.) but I just feel like we always have a lot of key injuries!
I'm not concerned about one clip either but it does speak to my concern that: i.) he's not quick enough off the ball ii.) he's not as athletic (yet) as I'd have hoped iii.) he's a BIG guy but is he strong enough to bull rush? He played to high and got beat...I would have like him to stay low and get under the pads a la Mike Martin. Thus far he reminds me a lot of Terrance Taylor who IMO underachieved. I WANT him to do well but I had these concerns when he signed...he is a big boy who physically dominated in highschool. I'm just a little worried that he will get beat by stronger, more physical, athletic linemen. Let's his skills improve with coaching.
D-Line and the M-Drill I'm not at all saying that the d-linemen need to show their dominance in this drill. I've only played highschool ball but we had similar drills and while I don't expect the D-line to actually tackle the RB, I do expect a 5-star like Will to at least hold his own....in that I mean he should be able to get his hands on the shoulder pads and bull rush his opponent back a yard or so. In that shot he was beat - nothing more to be said. His opponent stood him up. . . . look at his head in that video, he's looking at the sky.
Haven't seen the whole thing yet its blocked at work. But one thing I did notice was Campbell getting owned in the M-Drill. While I don't expect much from D-line in these drills, they should be able to hold their own in these drills. The o-lineman he was up against basically stood him up....and if you look at Wills feet they aren't even moving. He should have at LEAST been able to push the linemen back a yard or so....
I LOVE FX shows but. . . . I thought Justified was REALLY bad. Very cheesy IMO. Sheild, Resuce Me, Sons of Anarchy, Always Sunny, The League - all really good shows, but this one was just bad. Every shooting was "justified". . .I mean come on! A lot of the quotes were really bad. That said I'll give it a shot since FX shows have been really good to date....though Damages which has also been one of my favs has been dissappointing lately. . .
Roh Roh Roh your boat. . . . Roh, and depending on how they use Denard he could go as well (a la Percey Harvin); I think IF he moves around this year he could have a BREAKOUT year next year. Campbell . . . maybe. IMO he's a lil chunky (vs. mad-muscle that I was expecting 2 years under Barwis).
Few Points to Consider i.) at the end of the day, our line got pretty beat up last year in Big Ten play. More so than I expected....to many defenders in the backfield. That said this could also be a function of young QBs taking longer to make reads; a LOT to prove this season. ii.) BIGGEST AND REAL FEAR: we let RichRod go, bring in {anyone) and we go back to the pro-style. . . hopefully IF RichRod doesn't last they bring in a coach that knows how to run the T-Tech version of the spread because we are in the middle of a transition. iii.) Finally a question: Do you all think it was obvious that cupboards were bare when Lloyd left? I ask because think of the coaches that opted not to interview with Michigan. Oh and one more thing - for all of those bring in Les / Jim / any former Michgian alum: Les made HORRIBLE coaching decisions last year and Jim has one year under his belt. Rod's proven...I am of the view he just needs time: Year 1: write off - WALK ON QBs Year 2: 5 - 7 with a LOT of young players Year 3: 7 - 9 wins Year 4: WATCH OUT (opponents will not like an angry RICHROD!! But Michigan fans will LOVE HIM!!)
I thought Washington looked SLLLLLLLLOW as well....but he does equal size, which could be good. . . we'll see. I do agree Denard's arm looked a LOT better vs. last season

Hmmmm. . . . Was hoping to see Tate look a lil bigger.....more weight he has on his frame, the less likely he is to get injured and the more wins I think we'll have..
