I did forget about Luck, so…

I did forget about Luck, so let's just say for one that stays too late there's probably 5,000 that leave too early.

So which Colt QB who had their very promising career cut short by injury was better: Bert Jones or Andrew Luck?

JJ staying another year…

JJ staying another year would've been awesome for all Michigan fans but would've probably triggered an intervention by medical authorities because it would signal he's gone clinicaly insane.

Nobody since Tyrone Wheatley has turned down the chance to go in the top 10 in the draft to return to school and if anyone wonders why he was the last just look at what happened to him his last year here and what that did to his draft stock.

Even if JJ came back knowing he'd be the #1 draft pick all that would mean is he would make 18MM more over four years than he'll make as the nineth pick but he's assured of going to a really crappy team like the Titans instead of a fairly stocked roster like the Vikings.  And for QBs the real money hits on the 2nd contract, not their first, so doing well those first few years is critical to cashing in.

We will have the best defense in college football by far and a serviceable offense.  That formula for success worked in 97, I see no reason it cant again in 25.

Yes, have at it.  Glad my…

Yes, have at it.  Glad my worries were unfounded.

We officially have one bad-ass defense ready to roll.

Whew.   😅

Yes, have at it.Whew.   😅

Yes, have at it.

Whew.   😅

Is anyone surprised?  He's…

Is anyone surprised?  He's quite good at this.

He's already managed to move 100 million dollars already from his bank account back to MSUs.  Moving a few more away from his ex should be child's play for him.

FWIW I believe that's true. …

FWIW I believe that's true.  My post was mostly aimed at the posters here who complained during the exodus of players when Juwan was let go that the main reason they were going (and the main reason we had so few recruits) was due to the lack of NIL dollars available.

Posters like me, for example.

Funny isnt it that we've…

Funny isnt it that we've apparently "solved" our men's basketball NIL problem, seemingly overnight.

I mean if I didnt know better I'd swear that for many players an excellent HC with a long-term contract, surrounded by an excellent group of assistants, playing for an elite program (and yes, despite recent evidence to the contrary we ARE an elite basketball program) means more than getting the last NIL dollar on the table.

Imagine that.

I think that's three guys…

I think that's three guys who didn't get the smiley face emoji and have now put their names into the portal.  "Coach said I was going to get a shot at starting but look at this post on MgoBlog.....NO SMILEY FACE EMOJI FOR ME!"

Pro-tip.  Either give everybody a smiley face emoji OR wait until May 2nd to crush their hope for the future.

Over the years I've been to…

Over the years I've been to a bunch of them, here would be my choices for best & worst

Best current: Dodger stadium.  As the OP says, everything about it is perfect, especially the views if you're sitting around home plate and of course DODGER DOGS!  Yeah parking sucks but where exactly in SoCal doesnt parking suck?

Best Former: Tiger Stadium.  Yes it was in a rough section of Detroit.  Yes it had poles that obstructed sightlines and even a pole in the middle of center field.  And yes it was old even when I was young (Briggs Stadium anyone?).  But dammit the smell of hot dogs and beer as you crossed over the lower deck (dad always liked sitting upper deck, first base side) and sight of the greeenest grass you'll ever see has been imprinted on my brain and will forevermore be part of my childhood memories.

Worst current: Oakland Coliseum.  Old oval with horrible sight lines in a really rough neighborhood.  Went to a bunch of A's games in the 80's and dont miss that place a bit.

Worst former: Candlestick park.  Cold, colder, coldest and that's August.  Place sat in the absolute worst location for weather in the bay area so the fog was always present and that kept temps down from April through September.  October was nice there but the Giants only played in October once when I lived there and that series featured a massive earthquake.  A horrible place to watch a ballgame.

"A great relationship with…

"A great relationship with Michigan players parents you mean.  Not so much with the parents of the players THEY ALMOST KILLED DEAD because they knew each play before it was run"

MSU & OSU Twitter (probably)

(No subject)

Analytics by position value…

Analytics by position value on defense has evolved over the past several years.  Used to look like this:

  • Edge
  • Corner
  • Safety
  • DL
  • LB

Now, based on the draft and FA signing dollars it's clear it looks more like this:

  • Edge
  • DL
  • Corner
  • Safety
  • LB
In a similar vein OSU…

In a similar vein OSU twitter is taking a massive victory lap that we "only" got 13 players drafted instead of 16 (they got 4) and that there were players from Michigan that were invited to the combine, but not drafted, as PROOF POSITIVE that the NFL realized they were that talented and it was the Conner Stallions effect that gave us such a good record.

I wish I could say I was making this up.

Amazing what a change from…

Amazing what a change from the last days of Juwan.  From the basement of the B1G with a roster of mismatched parts to........THIS.

My optimism for the men's BBall team is extremely high right now.  We have an excellent coach, and excellent staff and now an close-to excellent roster.

FWIW the pick of Zinter has…

FWIW the pick of Zinter has been generally well-recieved here in both the media as well as the Browns Twitters.  The general feeling is our all-pro guard Joel Bitonio is probably going to retire either this year or possibly next and Zinter will take over for him then.  No real plans for him to start this year so in a perfect world Zac will be mentored by a guard that is a certain HOF inductee his rookie year.

That being said this is the Browns we''re talking about so who am I kidding.  What will probably happen is both Bitonio and our guard Teller will probably break their own legs in a collision on the first play of the season and in goes Zinter.

Back when I was able to…

Back when I was able to insert GIFs I'd have responded with the Robert De Niro "you, you, you" pointing GIF.

Good one.

<Bad thing happens to rival>…

<Bad thing happens to rival>

“Ha, ha – look at those losers.  They had a bad thing happen, it’s so funny.  Ha ha.”

Hey guys, be careful. That same bad thing could happen to us too.

“Never, not us.  That bad thing just happens to loser schools, not Michigan”

<Bad thing happens to Michigan>

See guys, bad things can happen to us too

“You just like saying I told you so.  Nobody likes that.  Stop it”

Three in two days and…

Three in two days and counting.

Suddenly the "LOL Sparty gotz players in the portal har, har" threads arent quite as funny as they used to be.

As a reminder in every “ha,…

As a reminder in every “ha, ha MSU has a player in the portal” thread I’ve cautioned the board to not get too giddy over their misfortunes until May 2nd when the portal closes.   Today I was told our players “aren’t going anywhere”.

This is why.  And we still have a week to go.

Meanwhile over at RCMB in…

Meanwhile over at RCMB in the post announcing his departure

"Too skinny to play in the B1G"

"No loss"

"Addition by subtraction"

"New staff gave him an honest evaluation"

And someone created a thread entitled "The transfer portal has helped MSU" which is going exactly as you think it would.

"Goff is a check down…

"Goff is a check down machine"

HA.  Goff is nothing compared the mother of all check down machine Lion QBs Joey Harrington.  That dude never met a four yard completion on 3rd and 12 he didnt like.

Insert <you cant fire me, I…

Insert <you cant fire me, I quit> meme from Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer.

Sure was a lot more fun back in the day when we could actually upload pictures, memes, GIFs and assorted what-not instead of just having to describe things.

Hey Pete, would the…

Hey Pete, would the installation of helmet communication between the sideline and a designated player on the field constitute “enormous changes in the college football landscape?"

Kinda seems like it does.  Which means punishing a team for breaking a rule (if indeed they did break a rule) that no longer exists seems kinda remote now doesnt it?

Your buddies at OSU are going to lose their collective minds when this precedent is used to drop whatever investigation they might've been conducting into sign-gate.

We got seven days until the…

We got seven days until the portal closes.  Until then I’m not laughing at anyone losing players, especially not good DLinemen, given that we’ve got two of them that are very much in demand.

FWIW Seth I've got about as…

FWIW Seth I've got about as much experience as anyone here at uploading videos, GIFs, pictures what-have-you and I'm completely defeated at this point.  Nothing works for me and based on the fact that no active threads have a video, GIF or picture embedded in them it would seem I'm not alone.

Please try and get that fixed.  There's a thread right now on Iowa's QB being in the portal and it's killing me that I cant post a GIF of a Tecmo Bowl pass play in it.

Yup.  Pulled it out of…

Yup.  Pulled it out of storage this past weekend as a matter of fact.

2025 Dodge Charger.  675 HP…

2025 Dodge Charger.  675 HP and styling reminiscent of the 69/70 Chargers PLUS they are finally offering a two door version.  Scheduled to go into production late this year with vehicles showing up on the road early 2025.

Back in the day when you could upload pictures to this site I'd have shown you guys what one looks like (awesome) but that level of technological wizardry is WAY past anything Huel can deliver.   Pictures on a web site......can you imagine?

Dusty is definitely building…

Dusty is definitely building a nice roster on the fly.  I feel safe saying we will NOT be occupying the bottom of the B1G next year by any means.

I'm extremely optimistic right now.   About both basketball and football.

I'm not so sure about that…

I'm not so sure about that one.  Jim will do what's best for the Chargers 100% of the time and that happens to help JJ, all the better.   But the dude is about as single-minded as anyone on the planet when it comes to winning football games so while I'm sure he'd like to help JJ, dont think for a minute he'll take a lesser deal from the Vikings than he could get elsewhere for the fourth pick just to "help him out".

That aint happening.

Co-signed.   And it will be…

Co-signed.   And it will be nice to have a HC who can be reasonably projected to be at Michigan for the foreseeable future (hopefully).

Hey, I love Jimmy and wish he was still our HC but..........his annual "will he or wont he go" with the NFL definitely took a major toll on recruiting.

You know what all these…

You know what all these spring game threads are missing don’t you?

Genuflections.  We have thoughts, we have observations and now we have musings but so far, no genuflections.

I’ll create one of those on Tuesday.   Your welcome.

Look, if I just make a…

Look, if I just make a comment inside one of the other threads devoted to the spring game there’s a good chance you plebes might miss it and it’s vital that my terribly important thoughts are seen by the widest audience possible, hence a new thread containing my musings and my musings only.  I’m baffled that the great unwashed can’t understand how critical it is that my thoughts are front and center in this discussion.

OP probably.

I'm old enough to remember…

I'm old enough to remember when our basketball team had more players than coaches.

Sorry sir, I disagree.  Him…

Sorry sir, I disagree.  Him sending her the heart sign would've been taken just fine IF he hadn't responded "if you do that to  me we'll get along just fine" after she told him she did it after every game towards her family.

If the idiot had said something like "yes Caitlin (see I can spell it right) I think it's a very nice gesture and I wanted you to feel at home here" nobody would've said a word about it.

It wasnt the human heart emoji that got him in trouble.  It was the veiled threat he made that could be taken a LOT of ways that did him in.

You're right, it's…

You're right, it's everywhere.  Here in Cleveland one of our local idiots with a mic & platform, no sorry, journalists, went on a Jihad day before yesterday because the Browns signed two players to one day contracts so they could retire as a Brown.  He said it was "embarrassing" that they did that (the players Christian Kirksey & Rashard Higgins were both popular with the fans) and acting like they were being signed to an actual roster slot.

He got summarily roasted by literally everyone and the next day he apologized.

Given that we have two NFL…

Given that we have two NFL caliber D linemen and a less than robust (allegedly) NIL program AND a new coaching staff I will hold off on throwing any rocks at the portal's glass house until May 1st.

If I had written a big…

If I had written a big longer I'm sure I could've found a fourth way to spell it.

"And, because of the OP, I'm…

"And, because of the OP, I'm now not sure how to properly spell Ms. Clark's first name."

Welcome to my world.

Which one do you like better…

Which one do you like better?  Personally I favor the Caitlan version but I can see where some folks, like her parents for example, would lean more towards the Caitlin versus the Caitlan.  Then there's the Caitlen which is the only one that spellcheck rejects (NTTAWWT) but in effort to be more inclusive I tossed it into the mix.

Relieved and thirded

Relieved and thirded

I wonder if our admission's…

I wonder if our admission's department has a pole somewhere where they carve a notch for every prospective athlete they've been successful at blocking going to school at Michigan?  Or do they have a big board inside the department with a headcount of how many they've been able to shut down?  "This month's goal is to deny 20 prospective transfers guys and we're only at 10.  Got to pick up the denial pace or we're not having the end-of-the month happy hour"

Or do they have a wall with pictures of prospective players with X's through them like the serial killers do in the movies?   Pelts if you will of successfully blocking a transfer from coming here.

We need new shirts.  The "Michigan vs everybody" are so 2023.  I propose a new version: "Michigan vs Michigan".

I knew he was a goner when…

I knew he was a goner when he didnt even warrant one of Seth's emoji faces on the depth chart preview.   Candidly when he saw that he prolly turned his paperwork in right away.

There is a small, but…

There is a small, but growing, part of me that honestly believes our admissions department views each potential transfer with the attitude of "how can we keep this person out" versus "how can we get this person qualified for admission"?

Unlike literally every other D1 school with athletic aspirations, our "no-admission" admission department seems to be a willing and formadble adversary to the athletic teams that must work through them.

Had a similar thought.  If…

Had a similar thought.  If the best basketball program over the past two years wants you it's a safe bet that the talent level is there.

Candidly I'm rooting for all the transfers.  I dont think the program & coaching they got was what they were promised.

Co-signed x 1000.We see this…

Co-signed x 1000.

We see this exactly the same way, Michigan is treated unfairly because we've chosen to allow it.  And as long as we allow it, it will continue unabated.

FWIW my prediction is when sign-gate if adjudicated at some point they will use the fact that we are on probation and have multiple level one violations as the fodder for a punishment that far exceeds the crime (if there actually WAS a crime that is).  I think the NCAA is playing the long game here, giving us a slap on the wrist for burger-gate that sets up whatever they want to do later.

They hate Harbaugh and they know institutionally we are weak, ineffectual pussies scared of conflict and authority.  So like your bully analogy they are going to keep coming back for more.

This was exactly my thought…

This was exactly my thought as well.  I've said from the very beginning of this nonsense last September that this anti-Michigan witchhunt was personnel and directed squarely at Harbaugh.  He poked the bear repeatidly with Satelitte camps, advocating for player pay and openly questioning officiating  in games where we got obviously screwed.  And the NCAA did not like that one bit.

It would not surprise me to learn that Warde slow-played the contract and didnt publicly back Jim because of his buddies at the NCAA told him "if he goes, your troubles with us go.  And if he stays, prepare for endless shit from us."

This was clearly a vendetta.

My assumption was Mars…

My assumption was Mars wouldnt issue a statement that damning to Michigan without being directed to do so by his client.

That's exactly how I read it…

That's exactly how I read it too.  Hence the "Lord".

JH gets ran out of town and…

JH gets ran out of town and fatass gets his spot on the CFB playoff chair.

And you absolutely know the first question FA asked when told these would be the punishments was "this doesnt effect me being on the CFB playoff committee right?   Right?   I mean I didnt do any of that awful, awful stuff - it was that other guy, not me."

The fact that they actually issued show-cause penalties for this nonsense should give everyone a very clear idea of just how much the NCAA hated Harbaugh and how badly they wanted him gone.

Imagine you're driving down…

Imagine you're driving down the road in the right lane going 65.5 MPH and get pulled over for going .5 over the speed limit.  And the entire time the cop is going through the "I need to see your drivers license, proof of insurance, etc" cars are flying by going 95 or more.  I'm guessing your reaction would be "are you fucking kidding me?  Look around, why are you pulling me over for going .5 over the limit while cars are going 30, 40 over?????"

I'm guessing Jim's reaction to the cheeseburger violations would mirror yours in that situation.
