Yeah i love CJ as a player,…

Yeah i love CJ as a player, but for the NFL his athleticism is average unfortunately and that tanks his draft status.  (Apparently a 4.4 40 doesnt do anything for NFL scouts)

Still, I agree with you, I think he'll have a very long productive career as a WR2.  Reminds me of donald driver, CJ is actually bigger than Driver, but yeah a good solid receiver that does everything well every play even if not elite in any one aspect of the position.  Driver was a 7th round pick.

Howard was just straight up…

Howard was just straight up bad at roster construction XD. Like the average guy off the street would have a better idea of getting a good spread of players to play all 5 positions and complement each other's playstyle.  Howard was just getting kids he got along with personally without concern for the fact we didnt have enough guards.

That's what she said

That's what she said

It's looking like it could…

It's looking like it could be like Beilein's teams with good passers at every position playing beautifully orchestrated offense with a solid defense to back it up.

I'm guessing May's offense is probably different in the Xs and Os than Beilein's but if he shares that obsession with emphasis and good passing and fundamentals that would make me very happy.

With Howard it felt like he was going for 90s style isoball and besides the results, the style of play was not very enticing.  And defense idk what they thought they were trying to achieve.

Is winning recruiting…

Is winning recruiting battles against ohio . . . good?

Just make a comment next…

Just make a comment next time and take your handful of downvotes for saying something stupid before making a post and getting negbanged so hard you have to make a new account.

Kia forte, idk i just want a…

Kia forte, idk i just want a reliable car with good gas mileage.  Rio is okay but just a little bit too small and low clearance for driving on Michigan roads.

Hope McCarthy ggets drafted…

Hope McCarthy ggets drafted as high as possible but klatt doesn't know shit about football, dont care he has to say about it

Orji cannot reliably make…

Orji cannot reliably make wide open throws. He's not the guy to carry the QB role in most games.  There will be two or three games against teams with miserable defensive lines that Orji will be able to abuse, but most games Davis will be better.

Find the guy who best…

Find the guy who best protects the ball

Exactly!  McCarthy is a complete QB, throws, runs, can do it all.  And what was he asked to do 90% of the time? Take care of the football.  Yes, some big third/fourth downs we needed him to take a shot and he succeeded, but the most important thing is to take care of the football and give the run game and defense a chance to win the game without QB heroics.  Then, if you need it because the opponent os playing excellent, you tell the QB to make something happen.

Orji is not going to be that guy for us.  It's either Davis or potentially Tuttle depending how he recovers from injury.

The first two throws were…

The first two throws were easy too and he just missed.

We had a coaching change,…

We had a coaching change, could have been smoother but idk not worried about it.  Recruiting will catch up im sure.  Im also sure some of those ohio recruits will recommit.  Things tend to even out in recruiting, a huge early lead in recruiting doesn't mean much.

What? Our deep depth chart…

What? Our deep depth chart was a huge part of the championship formula last season!!

Yeah idk, like yes rose bowl…

Yeah idk, like yes rose bowl win was great but we didn't play our best game at all and alabama couldn't snap the ball.  It has to be 4/5 along eith the Washington game where we did play our best game but Washington just folded.

And then yeah it's fucking ohio fuck them I'll take 1-11 with a win over ohio every season.

Definitely ohio 2021.

Definitely ohio 2021.

At the same time, innate…

At the same time, innate accuracy is something you kinda have or don't by the time you get to college.

Camp is about ironing out the high level details you didn't see in high school, not relearning how to throw an accurate ball.

And not to be a downer, but to me it sounds like Tuttle is still in pole position to be QB1 by the time September comes.  We need a QB with accuracy and wisdom/poise above all else IMHO.  Just doesn't sound like Orji will be better than Tuttle at winning football games, not that we couldn't win the conference with either perhaps.

We had two unused…

We had two unused scholarships last season.  We will also have unused scholarships next season regardless of how good a job May does recruiting.

We wont burn any…

We wont burn any scholarships, we're not getting 13 scholarship worthy players in one off season, it just aint happening.  Hell we had two scholarship spots open last year.

What's so confusing about that?

Most of the roster last…

Most of the roster last season wasn't good enough to deserve a scholarship, to be fair.

We'll see, just unsettling…

We'll see, just unsettling to worry the offensive line, the lynchpin of our last three seasons of success, taking a step back.

Yes.

Yes.

Every year majority of fans…

Every year majority of fans worry about the passing game and every year the team shows they win with the power run game.  I don't get it.

Only thing I'll say is that…

Only thing I'll say is that no QB in the draft is ready to start.  There rarely ever are any QBs ready to start as rookies.

Scouts are all looking at which QBs have the best chance of growing into a great NFL QB.  It's not so important who looks the best or is the best right now.

Difference is Stroud would…

Difference is Stroud would chuck it out of bounds when pressured because he was holding back at ohio so his numbers suffered.  Once he actually got paid millions to risk his body he did and he's been excellent.

Yeah i mean that's my…

Yeah i mean that's my problem with him.  Yes, May was a great hire, excellent job Mr. Manuel.  BUT, they had to call in Beilein to close it.  If he continues working like that, bringing people together to get the job done, absolutely.  He hasn't done that before though so it would be a change for the better.

Same with Harbaugh's renewal, Santa Ono had to step in to stop Manuel from messing it all up.  So even though this is great, I need to see continued humility and teamwork -- otherwise it looks like those around him are doing his job for him instead of letting Michigan fail.  And for that, he wouldn't need to stay in his role.

That said, I hope he proves me wrong.  Keep it going, people absolutely can learn to get better at their jobs.

Not true.  I wanted to and…

Not true.  I wanted to and always got downvoted to hell for it here.

That's been the case for…

That's been the case for like 100 years though at Michigan.  Even when the football team was bad, we always are like top 10 for the director's cup.

I mean, isn't insider…

I mean, isn't insider trading considered immoral if not outright illegal in many cases??

Taking him at his word, but…

Taking him at his word, but if it wasn't true it should have been trivially easy for MLB to show the receipts that he was lying.  AFAIK, they never accused him of throwing games.

Well, his main defense is…

Well, his main defense is that he never did anything short of trying his best to win games.  I guess as a gambling addict in recovery, i empathize with the idea that he had a hard line on what he wouldn't sacrifice for gambling, even though he knew gambling was a vice and not a virtue.

I mean, these guys made…

I mean, these guys made Piazza look like a contact hitter and he's the greatest home run hitting catcher of all time, never took steroids.

Idk if this is fair, but i feel like bonds deserves nothing for being greedy.  He was already well on his way to being the greatest hitter of all time, and he was also an elite defensive player, 3x national league MVP by the age of like 29.  But that wasn't enough! He got jealous of like mark mcguire and jose canseco and started juicing to bump up his HR stat.  Idk, to me that's a huge betrayal of sportsmanship.

I mean, the whole point of…

I mean, the whole basis of defending pete rose is the understanding that he never threw any games or bet against his own team.

I mean people do grow and…

I mean people do grow and change.  Doesn't change the fact that he has been a shitty AD for years, but the Dusty May hiring is excellent.

Idk awd doesn't do anything…

Idk awd doesn't do anything for me. I drive FWD and never had an issue that awd would have helped.  Main thing is sliding while braking in the snow and awd doesn't do anything for that so im not sure the point if youre not offroading.

Lots of people go to college…

Lots of people go to college for seven years.

Yeah, they're called redshirt + covidshirt + medshirt ncaa athletes.

I suppose they were *trying*…

I suppose they were *trying* to be funny, but yes i negvote unfunny jokes

So you want him to recruit…

So you want him to recruit ten freshman? How does that work? How do we recruit anyone for 2025 when we have a monster ten person 2024 class??

I dont like him but a…

I dont like him but a mediocre team would be a huge improvement for us right now.  I'm not going to necessarily say we should go after him honestly i dont know much about him, but just any half decent coach who will be a good culture guy (i.e. sure to avoid any scandals) is what we need for a year or two.  Build the team back up to a .500ish team with half decent bench/underclass.   Then we can offer some homerun longterm excellent coach.

Remember we were dead last in the conference, outside the top 300 nationally.  And all the players from this trash team are about to transfer out.  Oh yeah and our dogshit AD is on the hotseat.

We are rock bottom right now, no great coach will touch our program with a ten foot pole at the moment.

I have no idea but i would…

I have no idea but i would guess gambling is so normalized, like any of these mega millionaires might blow $1000 on the roulette table and nobody bats an eye.  Because $1000 is nothing to them.  But there might be no way of knowing if Ohtani or anyone else then goes on to lose millions over the course of a year.  Ive had friends like that, not millionaires but they lose 100$ along with the rest of us livebetting at the bar and we all just have a good laugh about it.  Then we find out much later that one of us in that group had a massive gambling addiction, might only lose $100 in front of his friends, but we had no waying of knowing he was losing thousands a week.

It's just polluting the…

It's just polluting the message board.  Like, if any mgouser posted about their own family member struggling with cancer i would 100% upvote and leave a supportive message.  But like why are talking about a random person somewhere far away from Michigan with no connection at all to the university, to the state or to any mgousers at all?

Like if you care so much about fuck cancer go help any of the thousands of people here in our state with cancer.

Seriously, might as well be posting some random person in timbuktu got cancer you guys.  But if I post that now i get downvoted to hell, oh well, im obviously the minority here and the vast majority thinks the royal family matters to them.

the implication is that…

the implication is that ohtani was making those bets, the translator just used his own name to avoid getting ohtani in trouble.  so really this looks like it could be ohtani's gambling debts since he was so willing to pay 4.5M "for his translator."

for the most part, got…

for the most part, got arrested for a bar fight i think a few years ago but nothing came of it.

Change the channel or record…

Change the channel or record and skip the commercials.  Like we suffer through all this garbage tv, including commercials, but they get millions of eyeballs and make money to continuing putting this crap on the airwaves.

Michigan is the greatest…

Michigan is the greatest university in the world, including our athletic department.  That's not an issue at all.

But, because of the state of the basketball right now, you are absolutely correct that this is not a desirable head coaching position.

No great coaches are coming here rhis  offseason.  They might only do so to collect a massive check and coast, in which case they would no longer be a great coach.

Our basketball team is a total shitshow right now, any mediocre coach would be a massive improvement.  We just need a mediocre coach with great "character" to get the program stable, even if only at .500 and then after a season or two, go for the homerun hire.

Honestly, if Martelli has two seasons in him before retirement, he might be the ideal candidate, would happily be replaced for a homerun .  Or someone like that.

We basically can't be worse…

We basically can't be worse.  We can get a team of walkons from the student population and win about as many games as we did this season.  (Maybe not if they were coached by Howard i suppose)

No need to act quickly but…

No need to act quickly but no need to delay either.  We aren't going to get a great coach for next season, our team is a total dumpster fire.

We just need a mediocre "character" guy to stabilize the program, get us back to .500ish and then go for the homerun hire when it wouldn't be insanity for a great coach to come here.

Wont miss him, he's barely a…

Wont miss him, he's barely a rotation player on any other tean in the conference.

Dont need a home run hire.  Just need a mediocre coach to get us back in the .500 ballpark, stabilize the situation and then go for the homerun hire when we're not one of the worst teams in the country anymore.

We ended up winning a game…

We ended up winning a game that was a war of attrition, but it was way too close and extremely uncomfortable.

Against a top ten Penn State in a sold out Beaver Stadium! Are you freaking kidding me?  Close wins are not allowed anymore??

Plenty of bad stuff is…

Plenty of bad stuff is really popular unfortunately, that movie was pretty dumb.
