We obviously need to stick with Hoke. I think in the long run well be fine. On the other side of that coin I really think that he needs to have some real tight reins on his positional coaches. I understand we have a lot of youth on this team but my god there are areas where we just look downright awful. I mean how is our O line tht bad? And I don't know about the rest of you but I'm losing faith and respect for Borges with each week. I think he's just trying to be balanced for the sake of saying UM is balanced. There is no physicality anywhere on this offense. There's no toughness. That's one thing I like about dantonio is that he goes into the year saying sob we are goin to RUN the ball and be physical if it kills me. And they may not look real efficient at it the first few games but by god by the middle of the season those guys understand what kind of toughness to bring to te table and they compete and have a personal pride about that. UM has absolutely 0 of that right now. I said it before and I'll say it again UM and it's coaches more so on the offensive side of the ball are too damn soft and finesse. Borges is too soft! Funk has to be evaluated.

We fuckin blow donkey balls lol

Once again after the game was in the books, I just find myself confused as all get out. What kind of team is this? They have no identity whatsoever. I take that back, this teams identity is changing their identity week to week. I hope we can chalk a lot of it up to just being a young team. Love the guys tho. As pissed as I often get you can't not root for these kids. I'm anxious to see what an additional week of work will do for this teams progression process.
|38 weeks 16 hours ago||Borges smh||
Borges is a tard! Why are we running high risk plays(fake fb toss, options) in the shadow of our own goalposts!? Just not smart.
|39 weeks 14 hours ago||Haha||
Yeaah baby! Funchess the saftey net
|39 weeks 15 hours ago||Slow||
UM looks slow and plodding on both sides of the ball. I know they're young but damn they look bad. In all facets. Coaching and players. Bad all around especially offense. Hope they can come up with some good halftime adjustments.
|39 weeks 16 hours ago||Borges||
I'm sorry ladies and gentleman. But Borges needs to be reevaluated. The play calls are severely questionable.
|39 weeks 16 hours ago||I'm sorry||
Borges needs to go take a break. Too much pass with unproven, unsettled QB. Green picks up 4-5
|39 weeks 17 hours ago||Here we go again||
Offense looks effing horrendous! Quit trying to go east and west and line up and match the physicality for Christ sake!
|39 weeks 5 days ago||Deveon||
I agree. I'm not totally sure that Derrick Green is the monster bowling ball that has wolves for legs, at least not yet anyway. It must be a practice thing as to DS not getting a handful of carries. I say throw DS in there a few times and see what happens. He looked more than competent in the CMU game, with maybe even more strength than any back we have now. Green may be bigger but DS looked strong!

Absolutely enoughalready! Hit the nail
|40 weeks 2 days ago||Defense||
There's two things I think matter above all else.
|40 weeks 2 days ago||He'll have time||
To be nurtured along. That's the key. I'd go in the dual threat direction as much as possible especially if a five star is seriously interested from the QB state. He has the potential to be a kapernick or locker type. If you're not sacrificing accuracy and other QB intangibles than it's one more dynamic to your offense the D has to account for. So bring em in, nurture them along and add that dimension to the offense.
|41 weeks 3 days ago||Absolutely||
Have to fully agree with Purplestuff. Its about creating and embracing an identity. I've said it before that the way Borges calls plays and some of the offense installed it's creating a de-masculine team. They said in the fore front that they wanted to run the ball and be more of a downhill team. Correct me if I'm wrong. Than by god you find the players to run a tad more simplistic power/downhill offense and tell them that the guy in front of you needs to be squashed! What we have now is like Borges has a cheat code for EA's NCAA where you have unlimited formations and plays out of those formations in your play book and he's taken full advantage. I'm sorry but I feel it's over loading these guys. I'm not saying to not have counters and audibles to counter punch with but you have to go into a game, into a season, into how you want your programs philosophy to be about and say we are going to first commit to this. We are going to simplify this for these guys so that they can play physical and this is what we are first and foremost, and coach and drill and recruit to that.
|41 weeks 4 days ago||It's all about the D||
Defense wins championships and that is what Hoke is building for. Same reason as I hate to say it that MSU will be a tough team to beat. RR was never about that or any other UM tradition.
|41 weeks 4 days ago||Simplify||
I watched the Akron game again last night and really focused on the OL as well as play calls. Miller just struggled mightily in that game. It's tough to get anything going when the center of your line gets caved in on almost every play. We talk about still having square pegs well how do we know that we don't have at least some square pegs with at least rounded off edges ala Chris Bryant. I still stay with the "at some point you have to try something different" philosophy. If it doesn't work you can always go back to the old way of doing it. And Borges with his melting pot of plays is hindering the and it's not allowing our offense to find an identity. We want to be a downhill power team but with the play calls I feel it's softening our offense to a finesse style of play. If you want to run power than get the guys in there who can move people and if they can't then you try another, simplify the offense and quit pussy footing around with these gimmick mis directions and reverse plays and get north and south. We number one have to stop the negative yardage on any down not just first, and keep pounding away and pounding away. Rotate Green in, then back to Fitz give 3-5 carries to Rawls or Smith. Will it always garner huge chunks of yards every down? No but the backs won't fumble and will push and fall forward for positive yards to set up a 3rd and very manageable and put our QB in positions to have success. Along with drilling it into his head to THROW THE BALL AWAY! This isn't Gardners playground to run around and play tag. Stress and Insist that we cannot have continuous 10 yard losses and turnovers. Then you take your periodical shots deep to Gallon, Chesson, Funchess/Butt. However we are committing more to the run. If we punt we punt but were not turning the ball over every other series and were giving our Defense a longer field to work with. And we do have a very good Defense that's getting better. IMO UM needs to shuffle and simplify things up and find their identity. I find myself scratching my head at some of the play calls like the UConn game when we had 3rd and 2 knocking on the door and we have Devin under center that went no where, yet earlier throughout the game when we should be under center were running our shotgun/pistol reverse and mis direction gimmick plays for negative yardage. With a young line I feel like Borges may be asking them to do too much. Make it a bit more simple and let them play physical.
|41 weeks 4 days ago||I agree||
Borges might as well be pulling plays written on slips of paper out of a bag and saying.. Yeah that one looks good.
|41 weeks 5 days ago||Simplify||
Borges is calling plays as if he's back in Auburn. This team needs things simplified for them. They're young. Some changes need to be made. Jack Miller is not cutting it. He physically is getting out muscled. He can't stalemate at the point of attack let alone push someone off the line. Gotta try some different things IMO
|41 weeks 6 days ago||Maybe overreacted a tad||
I still think they need to scrimmage and put Devin in those situations in practice and go over and over what to do when a play just totally breaks down so that we can avoid disaster. Yes this team is young and they're going to have hiccups and the OL may take a minute to establish themselves. But I agree in the fact that practice is one thing and sometimes throwing a kid into the fire in a game is the best way to find out if they can hack it. I'm mostly saying this in regards to possibly shuffling the OL and playing Green more. I know we haven't had the best opportunities in the last two games to do so but you get to a point and say, hey, we have to try some things. It's like Albert Einstein's old definition of insanity.. Doing the same thing over and over and expecting better results. At. Some point you have to try other options and see how they'll work out.
|42 weeks 6 hours ago||Yeah||
You're right! I honestly think that sometimes Hoke is a bit too passive in terms of the length of leash with some guys most notably Devin. Sometimes you need to get a little pissed off and say enough is enough. Never thought I'd see the day that DG looked this out of place but I caught myself midway through this game thinking that maybe he should move back to WR. I mean he just doesn't have the greatest pocket wherewithal to evade pressure and manage the play/offense, THROW THE BALL AWAY maybe. He may be a great athlete who has a good arm but my goodness it takes more than tht to be a quality QB. With that being said the OL is still a big mess. UM needs to get an identity established IMO. I feel like Borges is just trying to be balanced and calling plays to try and fool the D too much with the mis directions and reverse plays. Maybe just lining it up and running the ball/zone blocking and continue to try and impose their will on the D even if you only get 1-3 yards on 1st down come right back on 2nd down and run it again, shuffle Green in more while your at it. Might even have to try a combination of Glasgow at C with Kalis and Bryant at G's. Even if we punt at least we live to see another day and aren't throwing pics and fumbling and totally turning the momentum over to the other team. We have a good D. They may have to carry us until the OL comes together. They say the OL is penciled in every week and competition is ongoing. That should go for every other position including QB.
|42 weeks 11 hours ago||Hmmm||
I really don't know what to think
|42 weeks 11 hours ago||Devin||
Devin is regressing. Can we bring Scott Loeffler back. O line is an absolute disaster. Jack may be getting over matched. And please Devin just learn to throw the ball AWAAAY
|42 weeks 13 hours ago||Rubbing my eyes||
Is this Akron all over again?
|42 weeks 13 hours ago||Agree||
The offense and O line are regressing with every play.
|42 weeks 13 hours ago||For PA||
For PA to work well you first have to effectively run the ball
|42 weeks 13 hours ago||Once again||
Once again Borges... Calling plays that take too long to develop and putting offense in tough positions. 2nd and 3rd and longs
|42 weeks 14 hours ago||Ugg||
UM and Borges do not do a very good job of imposing their will on teams. Pussy footing around with a team that shouldn't be able to handle an attacking running game. Stop with the little screens. And DG that was a terrible pass!
|42 weeks 1 day ago||Imagine if||
Imagine if Hoke succeeded Lloyd and he had named RR offensive coordinator lol. Interesting...
|42 weeks 3 days ago||Balance||
I think if you have balance across the board offensively you set yourself up for pretty good success. You're not totally spread and you're not totally Pro. Just have good playmakers and recruit the best kids you can for a balanced attack. Maybe with a slight lean towards a down hill attack
|42 weeks 3 days ago||All depends||
All depends on how well the coaches/program feel that they can recruit top rated OL recruits along with top level RB's and WR's. If they can do that on a consistent basis than the priority on a pocket QB is more understandable. But the OL has not solidified itself yet this season and if we hadn't had Devins running ability than we might be sitting at 1-3. To me the OL is the key and always will be the key in determining what kind of QB philosophy you go with. Without a solid OL you can't run the ball effectively and that then negates any PA game not to mention just good pocket protection. However we are still maybe just 3/4 of the way through a culture/philosophy transformation form a past regime that did not put a premium on OL or even WR to an extent. I'm curious to see what this week brings and then a bye to see if Funk and the rest of them can't get this OL going.
