|3 days 5 hours ago||I'll take as many Chris Williamsons as Michigan can get||
I'd love to see special teams units loaded with guys like this. OSU seemingly has an army of such guys to run down the field on kicks/punts.
|3 days 6 hours ago||FWIW||
My takeaway from Rogers' time at CB is that it wasn't a disaster, which is what we'd feared when we learned he'd have to start at the position. I suggest filing him under "surprisingly serviceable."
|3 days 6 hours ago||I believe he was a DE and a QB||
|3 days 7 hours ago||yep||
|3 days 18 hours ago||Be careful, brother||
The commies can change your brainwaves through the internet. You should lay low for a bit.
|4 days 1 hour ago||Thanks||
I wish "M is falling behind Kentucky and Duke for [Player X]" wasn't such a frequently accurate statement.
|4 days 2 hours ago||Ace||
Is there any movement at all on the basketball front? I saw that Jaylen Brown is going to reschedule his visit, but I haven't seen anything else for a long time (other than that Josh Langford likes Michigan).
|4 days 7 hours ago||I wouldn't say outraged||
My right knee is sore, though. Does that count?
|4 days 23 hours ago||"now the entire program is banking on the 2016 class"||
That's the situation in a nutshell (thought I suppose there is a slim chance Michigan lands Jaylen Brown). If I were still capable of feeling angst about a Michigan team (which I'm not b/c this football season drained that capability from me), I would be pretty angsty about the 2016 class. The recent suggestion that Derryck Thornton has lost interest in Michigan is bad news.

...who had posted this even before I clicked on the link.
|5 days 2 hours ago||That's right||
Michigan had five guys drafted in '13-'14. Kentucky had four drafted in that time.
|5 days 6 hours ago||Andy Dalton made the Pro Bowl?!||
That is cause for concern.
|5 days 7 hours ago||Steve Clarke made an interesting point when talking to...||
...Sam Webb this morning: His understanding is that the Colts noticed the underinflation of the balls at halftime but didn't raise the issue until after the game. If that's true, did the Colts really think this was a big deal?
If I'm a baseball manager and I notice that an opposing pitcher is putting a foreign substance on the ball, I'm running out to the field and not leaving until the situation is sorted out.

The NFL is almost certainly reviewing every bit of video and every photo it can get its hands on from the game.
|6 days 7 hours ago||I would know that he's a wizard||
I've suspected as much, and that would confirm it.

From Jay Paterno (my emphasis):
Mike McQueary's testimony (emphasis mine):
Jay Paterno's first bolded quote is deeply misleading and also not very helpful even on its face. He admits Joe knew Sandusky was in the shower with a boy, and he omits the fact that, while the word "rape" wasn't used, McQueary said it was "extremely sexual."
The second bolded quote is laughable. Joe Paterno was a man who sometimes got out of his car and directed traffic in Happy Valley. He once kicked his bossses out of his house. And now he doesn't know what to do?!

...they really can't remove Penn State from the stain of this. They can claim vindication all they want, but they won't be seen as a model program like they once were by the outside world for a very long time.
|1 week 3 days ago||you are exactly right||
Paterno didn't just turn a blind eye - he facilitated what Sandusky did. Paterno's supporters ignore this.
|1 week 3 days ago||The wins are trivial compared to much of the rest of the deal...||
...but that cuts both ways. $60 million toward preventing child abuse is much more important than wins and losses, but it's also something well beyond tacky for Penn State to push to have the wins reinstated in the first place.
The basics of the proposed settlement are here: http://www.ncaa.org/about/resources/media-center/news/ncaa-reaches-proposed-settlement-corman-lawsuit
|1 week 4 days ago||I *think* Sam Webb said there would be interest||
Regardless, Hogan has completed 65% of his career passes and has a TD-to-Int. ratio of 48-21 (with another 9 TDs rushing). I've been underwhelmed by him too, but he's a good player.
|1 week 4 days ago||I would have kissed you right on the mouth...||
...if a month ago you'd told me Michigan would end up with Harbaugh, Drevno, and Durkin and retain Mattison. It's almost too good to be true.
|1 week 4 days ago||I'll take a smaller TJ Yeldon||
Thanks as always for the write up!
|1 week 5 days ago||right||
I don't mean to suggest either guy has a hard and fast rule. Meyer would take Denard, as you say, and RR would take Tebow. This is in regard to a different position, but I remember RR saying when he got the Michigan job, "People think I want small lineman, but I'd be more than happy to take a Jake Long!"
|1 week 5 days ago||There is no doubt that he can make his personnel work||
I also think he wants to spread you out so he can pound the ball up the middle, though, in contrast (for example) to RR, who looks to get to the edge of defenses. I think we can say very broadly that Meyer is more likely than RR to want a big QB and RR more likely than Meyer to want a fast one. Though of course they'll both take a Pryor or a Cam Newton.
|1 week 5 days ago||yeah||
The McGary suspension was a death knell of sorts. I look forward to the day when I'm not frustrated by it. I expect that day to occur sometime around 2035.
|1 week 5 days ago||Agree re: your last two paragraphs||
The line up of the team that played for the national championship was ranked as follows by Rivals:
Burke (142 overall)/Spike (not ranked)
Hardaway (not ranked)/LeVert (not ranked)/Vogrich (137)
McGary (30 at the end but as high as 2 after his last AAU season, the difference being his h.s. coach didn't utilize his offensive game the way his AAU coach did)/Morgan (not ranked but a 4th year junior)/Horford (not ranked)
The line up now:
Walton (37)/Spike (not ranked)
LeVert (not ranked)/MAAR (not ranked)
Chatman (25)/Dawkins (not ranked)/Wilson (86 but very raw)
Doyle (not ranked)/Donnal (111)
Burke, Hardaway, LeVert, and Stauskas all out-performed (or are out-performing) expectations to one degree or another. But even a staff that can help produce that kind of overachievement probably can't replace guys like McGary, GRIII, and senior season Morgan with players who are 25/86/111/not ranked/not ranked and not expect a big drop off - at least when those new players are freshman.
The 1-3 positions for this year's team do well in comparison with the Final Four team if you're only looking at recruiting rankings. But, if we stick with recruiting rankings as our guide, this team has no depth for those positions and a front court that (especially with Wilson hurt) can't hold a candle to the Final Four team. Add in Walton's injury and varying degrees of struggle from Irvin and Chatman, and here we are.
|1 week 5 days ago||Wow||
He's 25. I can't think of another coach at a major program who's that young. Most guys don't grow up around Jack, Jim, and John Harbaugh either, though, so maybe he's had a head start.
|1 week 6 days ago||Follow these directions exactly:||
1. Find the corner of Main and 1st Street;
2. Look for a Tibetan man in a trenchcoat holding a possum;
3. Approach the man and offer him a lefthanded handshake;
4. While holding the man's left hand, ask him the following question: "Do Adam's Apples Aggregate Annually?"
5. If he says "no," you will be fine, and you should go about your business as if you were in Michigan;
6. If he says "yes," you must kill him immediately (do not bother hiding his body), drive back to Michigan as fast as you can, and erase anything and everything that proves or even suggests your existence - or at least as much as you can destroy within 24 hours. After 24 hours, move to Prince of Wales Island in Northern Canada and hope you are never found. You will never be able to return home or even leave the island. I'm sorry.

...one of Mgoblog's finer moments. Brian did an excellent job gathering the various rumors of the day and then separating the credible from the implausible as best as one could at the time. Possibly better than breaking the story, Brian was a steady hand on the wheel of the ship as the winds blew back and forth, helping we Michigan fans (or at least this one) stay informed and relatively sane.
