Best five lineman? Ruiz seems to be our best hi floor-hi ceiling prospect combo on the line. With Kugler's very solid play at C (a pre-season q-mark), how about moving Braedenson to RT and Ruiz to LG? Braedenson is better equipped for LG but is experienced at RT and has another year in the offense. He is likely to be improved over last year which looks to be a big improvement over Uluzio at this point in his career. I am typically not a proponent of messing with a teams strength (left side of line) but this could be a clear case of addition by subtraction.
Don't give up on him just yet Not expected news but not shocking news. After a pretty successful first year as starter Speight had an obvious leg up over others. For someone to jump him in open competition would require exceptional leap in progress from challengers. Understandable that 5th year senior confident and committed enough to not grad x-fer solidly earns back up. Both Speight and O'Korn likely have better grasp of base offense and easier transition learning Pep's new concepts than the underclassmen.

Peter's is only RS Frosh who hasn't picked up or "controlled" the offense as quickly or easily as others. This could be from combination of issues (home sick, easy HS scheme, low key personality, etc). His physical talent is undeniable and he may not be as polished in the mental/leadership aspects of position b/c his physical attributes have made up the difference in the past.

Now McCaffery is ushered in with remarkable family/football pedigree a very polished Frosh much more prepared for the rigors of a college program.

Stands to reason a little self doubt may have crept in for Peters and shaken his confidence a bit. Especially, if combined with him having a little tougher time adapting to Pep's new wrinkles.

The kid is 19 and may need a bit of a wake up call to push into high gear. JH is a great evaluator and motivator. I have no more insight than any other poster but not overly worried about his current status on depth chart as a RS Frosh. I would bet Brandon still has a great chance to leave his mark on the program as another in the long line of great Michigan QB's.

Sorry for length
Hire Mike Sanford from Stanford-QB coach They could make positive change to offense by hiring a good QB coach. Brandon/Hoke should take serious look into offering Mike Sanford (age 25). He is the QB/WR coach and recruiting coordinator for Stanford.

Make sure he knows that HC/OC offensive philosophy wishes to emulate what he is currently running. Offer appropriate pay increase, offer Asst. OC title to coach QB/TE's and let him know that unlike current Stanford OC Mike Bloomgren (age 36), Al Borgess is nearly 60 years of age making an opportunity for advancement in Ann Arbor much more likely in the near term than Palo Alto.

This provides a fresh ofensive perspective, helps procure QB stability, aids TE development needed for an underperforming unit and strengthens access to west coast recruiting.
