Oh, now that would…

Oh, now that would interesting! What does a guy do when he has accomplished all his stupidly unrealistic goals? Invade Russia?

I think Ono would have had…

I think Ono would have had to fire Warde to keep Harbaugh. Shame he didn't.

In retrospect i think it's…

In retrospect i think it's likely Harbaugh gave that bonus money back not only for those affected by budget cuts, but also as a big FU to Warde/Admin thinking a pay cut motivated him in any way.

Title IX or not, with the…

Title IX or not, with the courts and government becoming much more interested in equal outcomes rather than equal opportunity there will be lawsuits. And no guarantee those lawsuits don't put things right back to being paid under the table, because that's what works best to pay those who are worth being paid.

I think it's way to early to…

I think it's way to early to say something like this. JJ might be good, he might not be. Goff is mediocre, but mediocre still outs him above 15 other NFL starters

These two positions are not…

These two positions are not mutually exclusive.

They won't go FCS because…

They won't go FCS because they don't have any programs near them. The travel would be killer.

I've always advocated for the directional Michigan schools to drop to FCS. The costs for those schools to maintain FBS status vs FCS have to be pretty high, and that's all passed on in tuition costs.

If those schools dropped to FCS, a couple of the D2 schools of comparable size could jump to FCS to join them. Help with travel costs to play C Mich, W Mich, E Mich, GVSU in one league.

4D chess right there.

4D chess right there.

Thankfully this is where…

Thankfully this is where lawyers can step in and come up with a plan that a judge may determine is equitable. And those lawyers will only take a measly 30% of the total to provide those numbers.

Works for everyone!

There are fields it matters…

There are fields it matters. And the networks you "may" make matter. Also, I've worked in C-suites where almost everyone "just happened" to be UM or OSU (not that OSU).

But outside of those not insignificant things. Doesn't matter.

For me. Could I have done better going someplace like UM, rather than GVSU? Perhaps so, but I would then have been a different person entirely to even get into UM.

I took it as tongue in cheek…

I took it as tongue in cheek. Acknowledging where this thread could go, rather than making a value judgement. Perhaps I was wrong?

I am actually impressed so…

I am actually impressed so far everyone has kept politics out of it. Well done!

Honestly, I get it. When I…

Honestly, I get it. When I was younger being a jerk on the phone got me what I wanted with Reps. As I got older I figured out being very nice, but also very firm about what I wanted got me the same thing. The first is easier and feels better, the latter is harder and requires some planning. I used to set aside 30 minutes with no obligations and something idle in the background while I waited on hold multiple times just so I could stay nice. Not everyone has that kind of time.

As far as Reps having to take people's guff? It should inspire them to get a skill or another job. Which should push up turnover and thus costs at the company trying to make a buck off people being too timid to call and fight the new rate. A lot of these companies offshored the first level interaction, so I feel even less sympathy for them.

Thankfully where I live now I have multiple internet providers. I chose the one that I don't have to negotiate every year with, just on principle.

One of the biggest reasons I…

One of the biggest reasons I'm opposed to using them for anything more than depth or surefire starters. And then sparingly.

We got a kicker and might get a guy back who wants to be a wideout. Unless some QB comes along who is darn good, I would prefer to stand pat. There are guys who've been waiting patiently in the DB and Oline rooms. I think we'll be fine.

Contracts can't be broken?…

Contracts can't be broken? By whom? Either side? That won't be abused by both sides, no sir.

Everyone thinks they have a great solution the current mess. Which was created by all those same geniuses who had solutions to the old mess.

Unbalanced systems change organically over time. And all systems are unbalanced. Michigan is always going to be one of those places that follows the explicit current rules and not the unwritten implicit rules. Just the way it is and has been. Accept that and be glad we get to win a championship every 25 years or so.

No so much a Kei truck, but…

No so much a Kei truck, but there are tons of options in the 3rd world that can haul more than a fully laden grocery cart. Usually they have a small diesel that gets 50 mpg and does zero to 60 in about a minute.

Then i could justify a 3rd car, where my nice comfy truck keeps me from doing so.

Perfect solution! Make rules…

Perfect solution! Make rules that make illegal the tampering that is already illegal. That'll fix it once and for all!

He was in an offense that is…

He was in an offense that is literally designed to shown off QBs and he was still mediocre. Or, as a UT fan said to me halfway through last season "If we had a real QB, this team would be pretty good. No wonder he couldn't make it in the Big 10".

Yes. I would guess UDFA guys…

Yes. I would guess UDFA guys don't have 20 contracts they get to choose from. Wouldn't be surprised if some of them only get 1 offer.

Nowadays it seems you need 3…

Nowadays it seems you need 3 corners, plus almost every game someone is hurt. NFL is so hard on the body, I'm glad these guys make what they do.

Oh 90% or better of the…

Oh 90% or better of the people on this board complaining about NIL were "Michigan money cannon" stans. Michigan never played the game on the edges before, why anyone thought we would now is a mystery to me.

I've always been a fan of those who stay and willing to accept not winning it all as long as we are doing it the right way.

Oh right!

They needed a wholesale…

They needed a wholesale culture change in year 0. 17 sounds like a lot of bad apples, which shouldn't surprise anyone given what they did last couple years.

Good thing i didn't read…

Good thing i didn't read most of threads I see.

There are always people out the door after spring ball. Some don't like where they ended up on the depth chart, and some probably had heart to heart conversations with their position coaches. Hopefully those guys will end up where they really belong.

And I guess nowadays you get guys looking for cash. Thus is the nature of the sport.

Were you never 18 years old?

Were you never 18 years old?

Which is why this whole…

Which is why this whole thing is dumb. Makes a lot more sense for the G5 to just go back to D1AA than it does to make a level between.

The lesser scholarship burden would seem to be worth it on its own.

New regime. You know one of…

New regime. You know one of the first things new coaches do is dump the malcontents and slackers to improve the culture.

Not every. No.Thank God too…

Not every. No.

Thank God too. Some of these people here aren't too tightly wrapped.

Yes, but outside of that,…

Yes, but outside of that, this team has amazing depth. A lot of it unproven, but there are plenty of bodies with talent waiting their turn.

Yeah, it'd be horrible to be…

Yeah, it'd be horrible to be stuck in Boca Rotan Florida on a free ride at 21 years old.

Horrible.

This might be the most…

This might be the most informative post in the thread.

Same with Q Johnson. It's…

Same with Q Johnson. It's darn nice we can pay guys with high floors to stay on the team in case their younger more athletic team mates don't pan out.

I mean, you could do worse…

I mean, you could do worse than starting a freshman QB on a team that should run the ball 60% of the time.

I think there is a long way…

I think there is a long way from beating most every team 45-7 to losing 5 games. I wouldn't be shocked mind you. But I also expect 10-2 or 9-3 being a lot more likely. We've had worse QB situations and won 10 games.

Of course, now we don't have Harbaugh. So shrug.

Eh, I am not an Orji fan…

Eh, I am not an Orji fan myself, but if Denegal doesn't put some space between himself and Orji by opening day I'm rolling both out. Players get better playing.

The Rose Bowl was a literal…

The Rose Bowl was a literal dream come to life. Nearly the perfect movie script. Miracle come to life.

2021 OSU was like pornography. Every hand-off to Haskins in the 4th was like watching the bully in every TV show get his ass beat over and over.

I'm not Brian. I can't put in words like he can. But i still tear up thinking of that game.

I'd reverse the order, but…

I'd reverse the order, but those 2 for sure. All the other big games kind of fade into the background after those.

Not unfair at all. Any…

Not unfair at all. Any organization that doesn't have strong outside pressure to perform rather than be performative is chock full of spineless petty bureaucrats. At this point in my life I assume it's just part of the human condition.

I think it's ridiculous to…

I think it's ridiculous to assume Harbaugh was leaving under any circumstances. If Michigan's administration had backed Harbaugh throughout his tenure rather than being the spineless bureaucrats they were, I wouldn't be surprised if he were still here.

I think the priority here…

I think the priority here was 'don't pay what Wrigley and Soldier fields were asking to put 20,000 fans when they play Indiana'. Smart.

I suspect they will work something out for the Big games if it makes sense financially.

Yep, there is cheap like I…

Yep, there is cheap like I won't order overpriced drinks at restaurants and then there is cheap where you don't round the tip up quite a bit because you didn't order the overpriced drinks. I see Harbaugh as the former not the latter.

Funny my wife and I have…

Funny my wife and I have watched both Rockford and Columbo over the last few years. Great TV. Today's TV has better production value and acting but the writing is just awful.

Any other recommendations like those two shows?

Man made a couple plays for…

Man made a couple plays for us against Alabama and I'm glad he is back for depth purposes, but Berry or one of the others better pass Q Johnson or that's going to be a leaky boat.

Even on offense there are so…

Even on offense there are so many guys we liked coming in as recruits that we haven't seen play yet I can't really be worried about the roster. Awesome job putting this all together.

Nothing says Harbaugh is in…

Nothing says Harbaugh is in the heads of the NFL teams. That's only being inferred by the media covering the NFL. And the media is notoriously gullible.

We only saw MH Jr. at his worst, against Michigan. Or at least most of us have. Certainly true for me. If he's anywhere near as good as people say he would be my choice if you can't get a 10 year o-lineman. If his blocking is dubious, there are solutions to that. Have him run fly routes on run plays. Are YOU not covering him?

I watch it on tape delay. …

I watch it on tape delay.  No commercials too, which is nice.

I watched one game last year mostly live. This year there are 5 I may watch live. It'd going to be glorious. And given our schedule I think it's pretty likely we could lose 2 and still make the playoffs.

Good question. I'm sure…

Good question. I'm sure given we humans are all built differently people like different shirts, but Gilden is one of my go-to shirt brands.

I mean, would you be…

I mean, would you be surprised to find out Howard had leaned on one of the admissions staff at some point and the rest of the petty bureaucrats in admissions made it more difficult later? I wouldn't.

I am probably one of the…

I am probably one of the most vociferous critics of so-called journalists on this board, but I don't get the issue with this at all. It's accurate, he failed (failure is part of life) and its nicely artistic with all sorts of call backs that people get.

Maybe I should consider its not the journalists I hate but the people who get all butthurt when journalists hit the nail square.

Yes, something people who…

Yes, something people who don't work with contracts assume is that once something is signed its done. Nothing could be further from the truth. Most contracts don't make it until term unless both parties are content. Which is quite obviously not the case here.

That seems to be the rule at…

That seems to be the rule at Michigan. 3 to 3 1/2 years to graduation. I realize football is a full time job, but with the proper degree track and access to tutors like these guys have, totally doable.

I'm assuming the idea is that you either find a spot in the 2 deep or graduate and go somewhere else without hurting the academic metrics. Not a bad way to start life with a UM degree in hand and no college debt.
