The team that is 2-0 is always the road team in this game. If it goes to the next game then they switch. It gives the advantage to the better team in the final "if necessary" game
I believe Victors Waltz was written around 96/97/98. It was played only when victory was assured. The specter of the Colorado game was still well present in the late 90's.
