| 3 weeks 2 days ago | Comparison Nationally? |
With two nationally top ten recruiting classes, it's not just a Big Ten or regional title Michigan is competing for. It's a possible national championship. Why not a comparison as well with national leaders for the 2013 class and whether key positions are filled, why the talent is going where it's going, etc. |

I figure Shane Morris is in a large way responsible for the recruits in 2013. |

Would love it if Tressel started competing with Ohio State for recruits. I know, not gonna happen. |

But I hated it when my Univ of Wisconsin friend referred to us as "The Baby Seal" of football teams. |

While there were earlier comparisons of our defense to Alabama, etc., we are losing to Illinois, Purdue, and almost to Indiana. Surely our defense is significantly better than these teams. Our recruiting class has enough quality athletes to rank consistently in the top 20 nationwide, but in reality we are playing around 50 or lower. Given the raw talent recruited, the coaches should be able to teach gifted athletes what they need for the team to compete in the upper tier of the Big Ten. RR has brought the assistant defensive coaches with him from WV. After this season, more changes apparently need to be made. |

Maybe just as interesting would be a look at the defensive talent compared to Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, etc.; teams we should dominate in the Big 10 not lose to or have a last minute win. |

Google says apart from Robinson there are three coaches on the defensive coaching staff: Bruce Tall (defensive line), Jay Hopson (linebackers), and Tony Gibson (Secondary). All but Robinson came from WV with RR. How much responsibility for the defensive performance is theirs vs the players? |

The trend is encouraging. If we stay at 367 yards per game we would rank seventh in the Big Ten. http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/stats/byteam?cat1=offense&conferen... Michigan leads the Big Ten in points per game. If they could tighten up on defense there might or might not be two less defeats. Look at the defense statistics for the Big Ten. We rank tenth in total yards (388 yards per game), ahead of only Illinois (409 yards per game). Statistics don't tell the whole story but it's hard to argue one or two plays a game to say how good or bad the team is. Interestingly at the end of last year's 3 and 9 season we ranked ninth in the Big Ten allowing 367 yards per game. Along with that we allowed 29 points per game vs. 24.5 this year. |

Your point is ignore the stats, the defensive performance last night was great? And that if Michigan did not have such a great defense we would have lost by a lot more. Short yardage scores don't add much to the total yardage stats. |
