the just released schedules were a flat-out statement that the B10 doesn't believe SOS will matter in playoff selection

Damn it! Convinced myself it would be the "late" game at the Palace since they played later than sparty today. Was looking forward to sleeping in till at at least 10 (pdt). Bloody Mary's all around for the mgoangelenos!! |

Isn't it a little insane that Roh was playing football with (even a light case of) mono? IIRC you are supposed to carefully avoid exertion or any kind of trauma to avoid permanently damaging organs that are abnormally enlarged during the illness. I guess if he didn't mention it to the docs they wouldn't know, but jeez, that might be something you'd ask a 20ish college student who's feeling crappy/lethargic about before you pat him on the head, hand him some antibiotics and tell him to go back to tackling people... |

Watching film...hasselbeck did something similar and Dan fours said coaches were showing him film. |
| 2 years 34 weeks ago | i think.... |
....actually that across is the cry for help and down is the srsly...contrary to popular conception. maybe i shouldn't be sharing this with people who have to watch this defense on a weeky basis.... |

there is so much nonsense in that reilly paragraph that you may have missed another gem: the fact that, IIRC, kiffin was the, umm, offensive and recruiting coordinator of the team that incurred the violations that led to the sanctions that he had "no hand in creating"...i guess maybe he didn't personally hook reggie bush up with the promoters or whatever they were (or maybe he did!!), but it seems like at a minimum he should have been, ya' know, aware of a) ncaa regs in this area and b) his star player's eligibility-destroying proclivities in this area. no? |
| 2 years 48 weeks ago | CIC |
I am not an expert on the CIC, but I do work in institutional research administration, and I think Mr. Brew over here is correct about the benefits of the CIC being rather overblown. Unless the CIC has some VERY unique relationship with the federal government, most of that funding is coming from regular grants and contracts that I am sure Texas and A&M researchers are well aware of how to go about getting. The coordination or traffic-cop function is nice, and bigger proposals can get hung up on those kinds of issues (competing with people you should be collaborating with instead), but I don't think there is really a ton of actual money sitting in the CIC office that they are shoveling out the door. Anyone have any special knowledge here? |
| 3 years 24 weeks ago | i'll defer to the experts... |
i certainly don't read him regularly so the timing may not make sense and I am sure RR has a lot to do with it. but the "careerist whore" and drew sharp comments are pretty much what i was trying to get at, which is that i think his biases, which are very real, probably have quite a bit to do with the desires of those who sign his paycheck and not so much some secret abiding love for all things sparty, or how much he digs the way dantonio runs a program. i guess that's not a phenomenal insight, but it seemed interesting at the time. i'll have my AM coffee first before i try this again. |

the guy went to UM, got a degree, covered sports and rose through the ranks at the Daily. he was a seemingly happy member of the UM community (we were there at the same time, and distant acquaintances, so I can't really say anything specific about him, but he didn't seem to have any major problems). then he lands a columnist gig w/ one of the region's main newspapers and just decides to go permanently ballistic on his alma mater and the football team he covered for years? i don't get it. |
| 3 years 24 weeks ago | Rosenberg: Daily Alum |
We all remember that Rosenberg went to UM and wrote for, edited and managed at the Daily, right? He doesn't give a rat's ass about Dantonio's bible or his jaw line. And I don't even think he's really part of the Lloyd Carr rump faction, although I think he wouldn't mind if everyone thought that about him. He's just making sure no one can accuse him of pro-UM bias by always seeing UM incidents in the worst possible light and MSU incidents w/ "Rosey"-colored glasses. Political comparisons are dangerous in a sports forum, but it looks to me exactly like the "liberal media" that couldn't get enough of GWB's perfectly framed crotch in that flight suit. It's all good as long as the bias you project is the opposite one from what is expected of you. |
