have you been watching

have you been watching the past 7 years? Michigan is as undesirable as it gets.

They shouldn't

be posted. Hoke and Brandon deserve the opportunity to bounce back from this.

Not trolling

just an Alum who is sick and tired of the constant delusion that surrounds this fanbase.

you're right

I didn't because I thought that was even too far-fetched. Getting a dead king of England is much more likely than Tressel. Didn't know I needed to include him as ridiculous as my list was. But if we're doing this then yes let's add Tressel, Woody Hayes, John L Smith, Greg Robinson, Pope Benedict, Julius Caesar, and Harry Potter to the list. While slightly more absurd, they all have just as good a chance as either of the Harbaugh's at becoming our next HC.

you're right

I would make a terrible AD. I'm in the medical field and don't know the first thing about the business side of running and Athletic Director. But I am very knowledgeable about not wasting my time. If I had a patient come in with with foot pain, I wouldn't spend my time monkeying around with tests concerning the Coronary Artery Disease or brachial plexus injuries.

by adjective

do you mean realistic?

you're right

we shouldn't. It'd only be a waste of the AD's time to contact any of them to inquire if they wanted the HC gig here. What's the point in calling when everyone and their mother knows the answer will be "NO"?

Thank you

at least there is one other sane and rational poster in this thread. People need to grow up and realize that deluding themselves into making their fantasy reality. The reality is, is that Harbaugh isn't coming!!! It sucks and it would be nice if he did, but he's not. Move on. It's not even worth it calling him to gauge his interest because it's literally 0%. It'd be like wyoming state asking Saban what his interest in becoming their HC would be.

The chances

of either Harbaugh coming here is about the same as those of Hoke leading us to a National Championship this year. If you can't see that then you need to take off the homer glasses.

Exactly

because in fantasy land, Hoke is still a competent coach.

Can't tell you

who it is going to be, but I can give you some names of who it won't: Jim Harbaugh, John Harbaugh, Nick Saban, Urban Meyer, Chip Kelly, Jon Gruden, David Shaw, Will Muschamp, Bill Belicheck, Mark Dantonio, Ron Burgandy, Johnny Depp, and King George the 5th .

These people all have the same likelihood of becoming the HC at Michigan. ZERO

don't be

don't be a sarcastic douche. It doesn't take a genius to see that neither Harbaugh is coming here.

Please for the Love of God

Please for the Love of God STOP!!!!!!! There is absolutely a 0% chance of Jim or John Harbaugh coming here. Stop living in fantasy land. We have a better chance of rehiring RR than we do of getting a Harbaugh.

Besides Hoke is still our coach and he deserves to finish out his contract at the very least. It is extremely sad and disturbing to see the entire fanbase want to run Hoke out of town. Did everyone not learn the lesson with RR?

To be honest

if he want's to go to the NFL then it's for the best he doesn't come here. I wouldn't wish this coaching staff on anybody that had aspirations of playing at the next level. Everyone NFL guy to come from Hoke's team's has been in spite of his lack of development. Now I think Hoke has made them better people than a Saban or Meyer would have, but as far as developing talent Hoke has to be worst in the entire country.

I'm not sure that's possible

In today's world where the competition is so fierce that if you want to win you have to be willing to slack on the ethics part. I would never want to fall into that trap and it's exactly why I'm glad Hoke is our coach. Sure our record might stink but at least we are doing it the right way.

If it's truly

all about W and L's then why just not give the player's roids? Forget ethics and cheating. According to you we need to win. I prefer Hoke as he is a genuinely good person and truly cares for our players and while the results may not be what we want, at least we won't have a slimeball as our HC like Dantonio, saban, or meyer. But if start down the road of winning at all costs than I'm done.

if you honestly believe that

then I don't know what to tell you. You haven't been paying attention the last 7 years. If you're not a Michigan Man than half the fanbase picks up their pitchforks before you even step foot on campus. What coach that isn't affiliated with U of M is going to come strolling into that environment with a team that is tire-fire?

I would agree

with you, but those types of coach's are few and far between, and the mess that is Michigan football isn't going to attract one of them. Why come here and deal with this disaster when there are plenty of comparable programs out there without all of the stupid politics a Michigan coach has to deal with? We're just not going to get them. So let's be happy with what we have: a coach who isn't great on the field but is amazing in leading our young men to becoming alumni we can be proud of.

Yes and No

Are his results on the field good? no they are not. I can't defend how poor this team is playing. But does he care for those 115 kids that wear the winged helmet? absolutely. He is doing a much better job at preparing them become successful and productive members of society. That is what makes a coach great. Wins and Losses are nice, but the true value of a coach is the positive influence he has on his players and Hoke has done a tremendous job in that department. Want proof? See the tremendous outpouring of support he has received from his former players. That should tell you all you need to know.

oh yeah?

Not worried about Mississippi State? You should be. Did you read the CC Dan Mullen thread yesterday? Mullen has the keys to that program and most of their fauns, alumni, boosters, and administration are happy with him. He get's what he wants there. So if you're going to leave there, you're going to leave for a big time program (something that we once were but no longer are). Plus Why would he then come to a program that devours and hate's coach's that outsiders, will have limited support from the fans, alumni, and administration, as well as being a program that is in a complete and utter freefall in a terrible conference. It just doesn't make any sense for him to leave a good thing going at MSU to come to this dumpster fire.

True

However the problem is that we're in such dire straights and the politics here are so awful that no slam-dunk will want to come here and all we'll have left to choose from is flyer's. If it was up to me I'd keep Hoke around but if he is let go then why not give Narduzzi the key's to the program, if he would take them (which I'm not sure he would). This whole "we need a proven head coach" is beginning to sound a lot like the "we need a Michigan Man" crap that we all heard the last go around.

Oh please

Not the Mullen discussion again. He's not coming here because the Michigan job is ABSOLUTELY a lateral move at best. People here like to think that Michigan is a coaching destination and that we're still a blue-blood program, however the truth of the matter is that that's just not the case. We've fallen very far extremely quickly. Coach's see all the infighting, politics, and michigan man crap that comes with this job and it makes it much much much less attractive. Besides Florida is going to make a run at Mullen, and that's a competition we're just going to lose. Florida has just as good resources, better recruiting grounds, and no back-stabbing politics. Those all make it a much better job than this one.

Besides, we still have a coach. Hoke deserves the opportunity to finish out at least this season and next year's. He's given us his all and put his heart and soul into this program. The least we can do is let him finish out his contract.

Agreed!

It's so fu*king annoying. MSU has a legit and well-oiled program. They are miles ahead of us, yet most of the fans don't want to admit it because "We're Michigan Fergodsakes". Well grow up. Michigan State at this point in time is a much better job than Michigan is.

Does that mean I would trade hoke for Dantonio? NO! while Dantonio is without a doubt the better x's and o's coach, Brady is the better at preparing kids for life. So give me 4-8 season's all day as long as Hoke has our player's best interest's at heart.

Yeah sure

but does Dantonio actually care about his players? I forget the guy's name, something Winston I believe, where Dantonio picked him up from prison and drove him directly to the practice field. That sounds like a "quality" coach to me who cares what happens to his players....I'll take hoke every day of the week and twice on Sunday over dantonio

Oh I totally agree

Has Hoke been able to positively influence the life of every person who has suited up for him? NO. but I bet if you were you compare his off field successes with regards to the players to those of Saban, Meyer, Carroll, or Dantonio, then Hoke win's that hands down. Obviously Hoke isn't going to be able to reach every member of the team, but on the whole, he'll be a whole lot better than those other coach's I just mentioned.

I'm glad you brought that up

the reason is because football is such a tremendous income for the University that it allow's the positive impact stretch beyond the 115 members of the football team and encompass all of the athlete's the proudly represent the University of Michigan. Should the members of the golf team or the volleyball team or the field hockey team suffer because many members of the fan base have the wrong priorities?

Got it

He should just become Meyer. After all Meyer didn't let Aaron Hernandez supercede his mission of winning a NC. No instead of helping him at a formidable stage in his life, he let him go on to become a murderer just so he could win a few football games. I'm glad your priorities are in order.

That's fine

You want a team filled with Ray Rice's, Adrian Peterson's, Ritchie Icognito's, Aaron Hernandez and Pacman Jone's. Nothing wrong with that, as long as you can admit it. I don't want those types of guys representing the University of Michigan but if nothing but Win's and Losses matter than sure let's go recruit them and become the Alabama of the North. But if that's the tact we're going to take we shouldn't act like we're better than anyone else. I personally, want something different for U of M football. Does my view come with a few more losses? Yeah absolutely, but at least i know everyone who don's the winged helmet is deserving of respect. Hoke, while not great between the lines, at least makes sure that we can be proud of everyone single one of his players and for that reason I am glad he is our coach.

A resounding NO!!!!

what's unpardonable is letting our player's be coached by people who do care about them other what they can do to further the coach's own career. Hoke care's more for our player's and that's why he deserves to be our HC. He realizes that regardless of Wins and Losses, he's teaching and parenting our players. If you just want someone that wins, then let's go get someone along the lines of Saban or Meyer, who don't give two craps about what becomes of their player's after they graduate as long as it makes their own careers successful.

I never said

in this topic that they were good at identifying and developing talent, but what they are good at is developing great men. That mean's more to me than any win over Rutgers.

I see your Beilein example

but he's the exception, not the rule. Just because we found one guy doesn't mean that there are ton's out there, especially when those coach's are getting paid millions of dollars to win. We're extremely fortunate to have Beilein. But for every Beiein, there are 10's of Calipari, Coach K's and Bobby Knight's.

no apologies needed

I just have a different view. While wins are nice, I believe the true value of a coach is preparing his player's to become successful and productive members of society. I believe Hoke has an amazingly positive impact on the men that don the maize and blue helmet and that means much more to me than a win over Rutgers, Utah, Michigan State, or Ohio State. If we become perennial loser's, yeah it would not be ideal, but I'd prefer to lose and have our guys be men of honor, class, and integrity, then let's say a Ray Rice, Pacman Jones, or Ritchie Incognito.

not at all

My point is that in the grand scheme of things, what makes a great coach is the positive influence he has on his player's and not the W/L record. If people want to go solely on the results on teh field, then sure Hoke should go. Can't disagree with that. But if that's what were using to judge a coach then why not cheat and using everything in our power to win. Let's stop become Alabama/ OleMiss/LSU/ USC. I on the other hand judge the true value of a coach on the positive influence he has over his players, something Brady definitely does very well. So in that context, I think he's  great coach as he does a great job of preparing our player's to become great people. That's what a great coach is to me. So while Hoke may not get the job done inside the lines, he does a much better job outside of them, which to me is what really counts.

I agree with Funchess

they are just a statistic. Will anyone honestly care in a 100 years whether we beat Rutgers or not? My answer is no. Don't believe me? Does anyone honestly care how we did in the 1914? how about 1970 even? the answer is no. What we should all care about is whether our coach prepares our player's to be honorable and productive members of society. That statistic means a hell of a lot more to me then wins and losses, and Hoke is the person to prepare our player's for just such a life. Does Hoke deserve to be the coach based solely on wins and losses? probably not. But he does deserve to continue being our HC due to his improvement of the lives of the men who wear the winged helmet. As I mentioned in another thread, the famous saying around here is that "we would prefer to lose the right way than win the wrong way". that's what were seeing. I for one am glad Hoke is our coach and don't give a damn about whether he wins or not as long as prepares our guys for being successful and productive members of society.

We are at the top

of what we can. There is no better compliment to a program than stating that i care's about it's players and does everything it can to prepare them for life beyond football. That to me is what makes Michigan football a great program. Are we going to have winning season's and NC's under Hoke? No probably not. But at least we have a coach that cares what happens to our player's once they leave our great University. I'll take that everyday over a Saban, Meyer, Dantionio.

Nope

I want to give him more time because he actually cares for the welfare of our team. He gives a shit about what actually happens to our players outside of football. That to me means a hell of a lot more than some stupid win over Rutgers. Let Saban, Dantionio, and Meyer win all the games, but have they had any truly positive influence over the kids they coach? My guess is that it's not even close to the impact Hoke has had on ours. So please forgive me for being a loser if I place the welfare our player's future over a few mere wins.

you sir

are an absolutely disgusting individual and an embarassment to the entire Michigan fanbase. Hoke is a great person who genuinely cares for his players, something that is rare in this day and age. I would gladly take Hoke and a 2-10 record over a Saban/Meyer and their NC's. Please turn in your fan card and never root for Michigan again. We don't need you and you completely disgust me.

No it wouldn't

Player's venting their frustrations is the last thing we need. Coach Hoke is a wonderful and amazing person, and while the results are what we would like, we are extremely lucky to have him as our HC. He run's our program cleaner than any other's in the country and he truly cares for our players. So let me ask you. What would you prefer.... a meaningless win over Rutgers, or a coach that truly and honestly cares for the successfulness of his players as human beings? I and most on this board are choosing the second option, and that's why Hoke deserves an extension.

Here's my logic

Here's my logic. Hoke does things the right way and care's for his kids. Saban and other winning programs do not. So if it's up to me and I was send my kid to a program, I'd send him to play for Hoke. I could care less if Michigan doesn't win another game for the next 5 years. As long as we have Hoke we will have a clean well-run program that I woulnd't trade for any of Saban's or Meyer's NC's.

You're wrong on so many levels

Losing doesn't have a damn thing to do with competitiveness. Losing the right way is not cutting corner's or taking shortcuts. If losing the right way meant being competitive then Urban Meyer losing to VT earlier this year was losing the right way. Is that what you want? I thought not. Sure the results are pretty, but I'll take Hoke everyday of the week over Meyer, Dantonio, Saban, Miles, Mulen, and just about every other SEC coach.

DId we look incompetent? Sure. But we didn't cut corners and 2-10 records all day over Saban's 3 NC's won the wrong way.

please explain

how I'm ingorant. This team is extremely young. True or False? Next year we are starting a brand new QB. True or False? Both of those statements are true, and both of those statements do not lead to good football teams. Just because you are completely ignorant and unable to be patient enough to give Hoke the time he needs doesn't mean the rest of us are. If you want evidence, let's take a look at RR. He was a good and competent coach that was ran out of town. Now he's taken a program that isn't even close to being steeped in the prestige that we have and just beat the #2 team in the nation. Forgive me if I don't want to repeat the act of firing a good coach before he has had the proper chance to build his program.

PS: When in the history of the internet has showing support for the current regime been considered trolling? That's just a dumb statement on your part man. I'm an alum who loves Michigan and honestly feels that Hoke deserves at least finishing out the 2016 season.

of course!!!!

we all want to win! I'd love to be undefeated. But I, like many on this board want to win the right way. That's a very famous and often-repeated statement around here. That's why I think Hoke should be retained. You tell me I had to choose between the season we're having now or Saban's 4 years of dominance and I choose Hoke every time. He does things the right way, and truly care's about the kids. for that reason alone he should be given at least through the end of his contract and i'd prefer him to get a few years in addition to that.

Not Hoke's fault

It's not Hoke's fault that RR recruited so poorly, and it's certainly not his fault that Carr told everyone everyone to abandon ship after his retirement. That's on Carr and RR. If it weren't for their failures, maybe Hoke would be in a good enough position to give us the results we want. As it is though, were simply too young, and the on-field results are not an  indication of Hoke or his ability to develop our players.

Starting QB

We're extremely young this year, so we can't honestly expect Hoke to field a decent team. there's just way too much youth on this team this year. Even if we lose out and end up 2-10, it's not Hoke's fault as we're just so young. Now next year, we'll be starting Shane for the first time all year. First year starters normally don't do well (granted there are exceptions, but Hoke isn't really responsible for next year's season either, plus we'll still be young. The first real season we will be able to judge Hoke is following the 2016 season. IF we're still struggling then yes I'll join you all in calling for his head then, but until then, Hoke DESERVES and NEEDS our support.

I'm sorry but I don't see it that way

Hoke is a great person who loves and cares for his team and Michigan football. I know that the results aren't exactly what we would like, but we NEED to be patient and keep believing in our staff. At the very least he needs to be given the rest of this year and 2015, and in fact I believe there is a strong case for giving him the 2016 season. Anyways, Hoke is an amazing person and a caring coach who runs the program the right way. The saying around here is "we'd rather lose the right way, then win the wrong way". Well we're seeing the results of that and we just have to tough it out during this downtime. Good times under Hoke are coming.

I'm just don't see it

Hoke is giving his all and is running the program the right way. The famous saying around here is that people would rather lose the right way than win the wrong way. Well this is what that looks like and I am glad Hoke is our coach. The results may stink but he should get at the very least the rest of this season as well as the next one, and I think a strong case could be made for keeping Hoke around for 2016 as well. He is a great man and we NEED to be patient.

Agreed

those other school's have high expectations, but they are also able to attract top-notch candidates. With our infighting and "Michigan Man" crap we've seen the past 7 years, I don't think it's realisitic to expect us to pull a high quality coach from a Power-5 conference. We're gonna have to go the Jim Tressel route and give someone their first opportunity at coaching in the big leagues so that they can look past dealing with all the extra bs that comes along with being our HC.

What else would you call it?

How else do you describe Carr's action's at his end? Or the lack of support RR received throughout his whole tenure? Or the blame we have placed on Hoke for the Shane Morris incident. Every since Carr has retired, we have a history of sabotaging our coaches whether they receive it (in Hoke's case) or not i.e. RR. This is not a pro-RR anti-Hoke post, I'm just taking a step back and from afar, we do not treat coaches very well. It's much harder for a coach to win when he has as little support as the Michigan football program seems to give them.

haha yeah a little bit

Maybe Charlie Weis was a bad example, but there a ton of people surrounding the football program that want absolutely nothing to do with Les Miles. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. Hence the Charlie Weis reference. I can't imagine that Miles doesn't know that, so why on earth would he come here when he know's that so many people despise him and want him to fail from the onset. He would be RR 2.0

oh please

when have we ever been patient. If Mullen wants the job then he better be prepared to win and win big in his first three years here. We ran RR out after 3, and the only reason Hoke is going to make it 4 is because of his Sugar Bowl win. There's no chance in hell the fanbase gives him the time to patience to assemble a team, unless he can do it extremely quickly
