Ya I am not a huge Hockey fan but I have heard great things about Yost. Thanks for the info.

Hilarious that someone downvoted your response. I can only assume it was because they disapprove of the fact you are not a huge hockey fan. The hell...

if you don't mind walking a bit I can almost always find parking in the triangle made up by State, Packard, and Stadium. I've never paid to park at Yost, but I've also only gone ~5 times where I drove (the rest were as a student or staying close enough by with friends)

Provided there isn't a men's basketball game going on, you can park in the Crisler lot for free and walk along the path between the practice field and the baseball/softball complex. Easy out onto Stadium to get back home.

He's in luck All both Basketball teams are on the road the following day and W Gym doesn't have an event at Crisler until the next day.

Crisler parking is free. That is what I do when there is no mens basketball game.
Enjoy the time with your son.

If you want to make a nice evening of it, park in the parking garage next to Scorekeeper's, grab a bite to eat on Liberty or University, and take a nice walk down State to the arena. Like others have suggested, get there early and take in the cool history displays they have by the entrance. Also, brush up on your cheers/chants before going, it makes it more enjoyable:

Parking at Crisler is usually free if there isn't a men's hoops game going on at the same time as the hockey game. Just park in the east lot (nearest the football practice field) and then it's about a 5 minutes walk from there. Just follow the hockey jerseys.
If you want to take in some campus life before the game, the B-School parking garage is open at night and it's usually free as well. Walk to Yost is closer to 10 minutes from there, but you're more centrally located to other restaurants, bars, etc.
