Yet another feature about Juwan ... and yes, worth a read

Seems like Juwan is one of the most popular stories of the tournament/end of season. Little if anything new for readers of this blog, but I still enjoyed it. It's a good article.

Warde deserves some points for that hire.

thank you for posting.

one comment about the NBA and juwan.  he's a dude who made $150MM.  the NBA calling with even an 8 figure annual salary has so much less pull than it would on a financially-mortal man.   he's not leaving any time soon, certainly not in the next 4 years while his kids are still in his house and on his team.  at michigan he is a properly honored and revered alum and coach, who only goes on the road for what, maybe 12-15 road games/yr until the NCAA tournament?

with money out of the equation then the next variable is family.  i repeat:  he's home and he's not leaving any time soon.

With his kids coming in, I doubt he leaves within the next 5 years, but I don't really understand the financial aspect or this affinity people see for the college game as a valid reason. The front page all agreed he "seems to like" college coaching. Ok? He basically said he would never coach college other than for Michigan, meaning he is much more of an NBA person.

I don't think he leaves any time soon either, but I think he really does have a desire to be an NBA coach one day. Talking about money, or family, or his satisfaction with coaching college seems sort of like confirmation bias to me.

you don't see the financial aspect?  if i offered you $10MM to coach an NBA squad you would crawl over glass to get it.  but if you offered that same $10MM (using extreme example) to jeff bezos he would have one of his assistants scoff at the offer.   juwan is a lot closer $-wise to bezos than i'd guess any of us are.  there comes a time, especially if you are financially reasonably 'set', where time, and specifically time with your family outweighs any/all other considerations.

going on the road for 41+ reg season games, add playoffs, 6-8 months of hoops vs. home all but a handful of nights in college hoops.  no brainer decision for guys like juwan who is a big family guy.   did you see his interview with dan patrick?  he made that point himself about the travel and how he said it cost him time with his children and he wasn't willing to do that anymore.

will he eventually go to the NBA?  probably.  but is that time soon?  negative.
