Yesterday was another GREAT, BIG MICHIGAN DAY!
#17 Softball beat Fresno State 1-0 in the 9th inning via the international tiebreaker rule. Fresno is unranked but a strong team. Michigan won the USF Wilson-Demarini Tournament for the first time ever this weekend going a perfect 5-0 to open 2020. Not even the Romero teams of the mid-2010s could win that tournament.
#9 W Lacrosse won a hard-fought season opener at Jacksonville, 10-8. Back and forth game against a team we eliminated in our first-ever NCAA Tournament last year. JU dominates the A-Sun every year so this is also a great sign to start the year. Should be another fantastic season for WLAX.
#13 M Tennis upset #9 Columbia on the road. Came down to the final match but Michigan pulled it out 4-3. Should be in the top-10 on Tuesday.
#10 W Tennis easily disposed of Illinois 4-1 at the ITA National Indoor Tournament.
#8 W Gymnastics yet again beat Ohio State. In front over 7,000 in the second-largest gymnastics crowd ever at Michigan. They had to raise the entire East side upper bowl curtain because there were so many people. Michigan posted their highest team score of the season at 197.350, dwarfing OSU’s 195.900. Wolverines literally won everything: the meet, each event as a team and each event individually was won by a Michigan gymnast. Michigan is 54-2 against OSU since 1991 and hasn’t lost in Ann Arbor to them since 1990.

WD - Do you know the best place to find the television schedule for Women's Softball? I am not in the area but have virtually all the sports channels....

Wrestling lost big to Iowa. Mason Parris had a big win though.

What is the international tiebreaker rule? Is it like a shootout?

There could be more to it, but I believe the main point is that each half inning starts with a base runner on 2nd base so that more runs will be scored.

That's the jist of it. Last player to bat the previous inning starts the next inning on 2nd.

Am I the only one who thinks that it is odd that beating someone by 1.5 points on a 200 point scale is dwarfing them. Do you automatically get 195 points for showing up to a gymnastics meet?
February 10th, 2020 at 12:08 PM ^
Gymnastics scoring is very tight.
A close meet would’ve been something like 197.350-197.275
No one will ever score a 200. That would be if every gymnast hit a 10 on every single routine in all 4 events.
You’ll be lucky if you ever see 10’s given out.
