Wrestling team at Big Ten tourney.
The wrestling team is currently in fourth place after the first day of the tournament. Kellen Russell, Steve Luke, and Tyrell Todd are all wrestling for first place tommorrow, and in my opinion, all should win. Justin Zeerip, Aaron Hynes, Zack Stevens, and Anthony Biondo are all in the wrestlebacks, and all will in fact place. The team has wrestled well so far, and depending mostly upon how well the championships go for us tommorrow, the team could end up in second place, and should place no lower than fourth.
Who would win the tourney? What are their chances at a NC or could you at least explain how the NC works. Not a big follower of wrestling but I do love the updates and as I've mentioned before, Todd was the same age as me and from a rival HS. He was a one man ball of asskick.
Iowa is unbeatable. They cannot be had, in anyway shape or form, and I'm not sure they graduate everyone.
Overall it was an ok day for Michigan. Dissapointing that Watts didn't place, he's going to need help from the committee in order to grab one of the bronze slots from the comittee, but its not really unsurprising as he was in an incredibly tough class. Stevens is in it for 7th, but I don't think that will qualify him. Russel got a huge victory in OT over Tstirtsis, who was ranked first for awhile, and though he's the underdog he should beat Tanelli.
Palmer from OSU lost early, which is always good, and Hynes will be wrestling to get into the third place match. If he wins his first match tommorow he should qualify for nationals, which is awesome, as he has been wrestling great lately and deserves to go. Zeerip wrestles for 7th place but probably won't qualify.
Luke should keep up the undefeated streak, and will be one of the heavier favorites going into the tournament, not Metcalf or Herbert favorite, but a pretty solid bet to win it. Biondo gets superfreshman Blanton tomorrow and if he can win one of his two matches should qualify for nationals, maybe even if he loses both. Todd is in no matter what, and if he hadn't busted up his knee he would be favored against Herbst. He's wrestling great though. Phillips wrestles Kasten, He's not in if he loses, but I'm not sure if he can get in even if he wins.
The way the National and Big Ten Championships is wrestlers earn points by winning matches, bonus points by winning by more than decisions, and even more points by the place they win. Iowa is going to crush everyone this year, its not even close.
nice, question about the new wrestling facility. Where on campus is it being built? and do ya got a link to it? Thanks.
It's going up across from the women's gymnastics facility out on State Street. That's near tennis and the new soccer fields as well. Framing is up, the last time I was through there.
Here's the info from UM:

Love these wrestling posts....good work fellow grappling fans.
New wrestling facility is like between the stadium and crisler I think, and it should be done next fall. Is awesome.

That's where basketball practice will be.
i've been gone for the last few days. I went to battle creek, as did tricks, to watch our alma mater wrestle in the state finals. I'm sad to report that Richmond was defeated by Dundee in the quarterfinal match, 34 to 24. Still a great season though, and we're going to give them hell next year. (Actually, I believe a current member of that Dundee team posts on this board). Anyways, Michigan is wrestling well, but Iowa is untouchable and will win nationals walking away.
the superstructure is up next to the tennis facility. and no... M is having a down year in wrestling. look for them to contend for 2nd next year (behind Iowa) and maybe the NC in '11.
