Wow, Mo Hurst just can't catch a break!
He fell in the draft due to a heart condition, then after a couple of productive years in the NFL he gets Covid19 and has an ineffective 3rd year. Once he recovers, the Raiders release him. He then gets picked up by San Francisco only to get injured after 2 games in 2021. He begins this training camp as a starter, and now he's out for the season with a torn biceps. What tough luck for the big fella! Hopefully, he'll get healed up and the worst of his luck is behind him.
Go Blue, and keep your head up!
Mo Hurst is one of my top 5 favorite UM players in the past 10 years. We need more belly rubs! Hope he can find a way to persevere thru another injury.
Yeah that sucks. He had a promising rookie year with the Raiders. I feel pretty bad for him
Haven't had a game-changing tackle since. Not really any on the horizon. What an effect a guy who can push the pocket from the middle has. Probably the single most disruptive thing a defense can have.
yeah--anybody know if any other former NFL CBs have unexpectedly huge sons that'd be great thx
Woodson had a couple bad breaks before he got a chance to be his full awesome. Ok, DL have shorter (player) lifespans than CB, but Mo will feast again.
Bummer. Stay strong big Mo.
Wishing him all the good luck he's got coming to him!
More justification to pay players during their prime years because the NFL is cut throat.
Very true, but one of the things I love about the league is that it’s a true crapshoot as to who pans out and who doesn’t. Plenty of Alabama, Clemson and OSU players have gone to the league and been huge busts, while you could get some kid from Eastern Illinois, Hobart and William Smith or Southwest Montana State who comes in the late rounds, or is even undraftws, and blows up into a star. You've got superstars all over the league who did not go to the perennial powerhouses or didn’t play somewhere that has been shoehorned into the CFP for the last 7-8 years.
This is basically normal for the NFL. It rips your body apart; most retire broken. It’s practically a blood sport.
Jake Plummer is one of those who was messed up! Still feels the effects of a couple of bad head injuries. But he says even if a player in the NFL never got a "serious head injury" he still has had head injuries, every player. Bubba Paris says he still has problems from head injuries.
The silver linings to this are:
- His heart conidtion was discovered and he could take necessary precautions
- He got over his 2020 COVID without any lingering effects
- He recovered from the 2021 calf injury without any permanent damage
- He should recover from the torn bicep without debilitating effects
It sucks to be unable to play but he should recover and resume his career. Throughout this, he continued to receive paychecks ($3.3 million thru 2021) and accumulate service time toward an NFL pension.
This sucks! I am such a huge fan of Mo. He absolutely destroyed fools while at Michigan. Get well soon.
Dammit. Hoping Mo can come back from this and have a long healthy career.
Can't catch a break. Can catch a tear.
Such is life in the NFL. Godspeed to Mo but that is a brutal game and only the best and the luckiest survive for any length of time.
Could use him in the recruiting department at his alma mater
Damn, Mo... Hope you recover and feast again quickly! He's too good to not be a star - sometimes the universe denies us the pleasure of watching the best perform.
Not the most important part of the story, but he wasn’t slated to be the starter. There was hope he would contribute, since the talent is obvious still, but he was closer to fighting for a roster spot than starting.
Wait, the guy was gifted by God, got a full ride to Michigan, has made a good living in the pros, and has qualified for a pension…that’s catching a damn nice break.
Will still have his 'quick first step' when he returns triumphantly! Get well soon Mo!

Thanks for the info. That does suck. Wishing Mo a speedy recovery!
