Would UM profit from QB by committee?
We all know there was need for a QB or two in this class, but how much drawing power do we hold for the future? With Threet, Forcier, and possibly Robinson coming in for this class, that's a lot of competition for QB. Looking into the near future and trying to recruit guys like Gardner and Bolden, do you think they would see quite a formidable task ahead of them to get under center?
I am wondering would UM benefit from suggesting a QB by committee? I know it's a huge faux-pas in the NFL because you really can't benefit too much from a scrambling QB. Vick was consistantly told to hang around the pocket and Vince Young is riding the pine behind a guy already collecting social security. Bringing in Feagin this past season didn't work too well due to zero passing threat. However, if we can get a Forcier/Gardner combo that could be useful in keeping legs fresh and the defense on their heels. One big downfall is disrupting QB-WR chemistry but if its used regularly that might be solved. What are your thoughts?

I can't think of a situation where this has worked. It didn't work in Miami this year, and didn't work out at Florida St. with Xavier Nixon and Weatherford. Maybe if we do something like Florida did with Tebow and Leak it can work out. At the same time, if there is any coach that can pull it off it is Dick Rod.

I believe you mean Xavier Lee, who turned out to be a big bust. Many people are saying that EJ Manuel is the read deal though.

No. We need continuity, rhythm in the offense. It's tough to do that w/ 2 qb's. I know, Florida, whatever. I don't think it would help.

Florida did that because they had an experienced QB that wasn't a runner, and a freshman that could run well. Two different skill sets, and they used it to ease Tebow in by mainly having him run the ball (ISQD!) with the occasional pass.
That won't be the case here -- Threet's only got about a half-year of playing experience, unlike Leak. If Forcier grabs the job, I don't see why you'd rotate him, since he can run and throw. I could see using Robinson for gadget plays perhaps.

Plus, if Threet wins the starting job and you wanted to have someone behind center for a run only situation, why not put Brown or Minor back there.

Hate to beat a dead horse but one similar to Leak/Tebow could come into play if we draw in Robinson and Threet wins the starting job. I think its less likely if Forcier wins the job, but if we pull in Robinson I would be surprised if he didn't see the field a few times in obvious running situations.

If Robinson and Minor were in the backfield with Gallon and Odoms to the sides of them.

C-Molk
WR-Odoms
WR-Robinson
WR-Mathews
WR-Stonum
RB-Shaw
RB-Minor
RB-Brown
RB-Toussaint
QB-Threet
QB-Forcier
It will work. Trust me.

I think your plan would be better if Gallon was at center because he is very fast. Molk is large and slow and would just end up being wasted space on the field.

Is it wrong that this image of that line up gave me an erection?

Maybe if this was rugby....or a game of 500 where Threet/Forcier could just chuck it down the field then whomever catches it starts a series of laterals. That could be our "we're on our 30 yard line, down by 5, with :04 seconds left" play.

Yeah, it could be like that offense, the A-11, that those high school coaches came up with in California where they go into a modified punt formation and everyone is an eligible receiver. They averaged like 43 points a game or something. Why not? On another note, if Odoms doesn't learn to stop dropping easy passes, you can leave him off of any starting lineup, the guy almost gave me a stroke last year.

its only a loophole in high school rules, not college/pros

That didn't stop Florida from using an A11 formation in a few instances in '07.

That lineup would give 2 DEs and a LB a free running start shot on the QB every snap.

The A-11 requires the QB to line up at least 7 yards deep, therefore we would need Molk or another long snapper on the line. The opposing defenders still have a long way to go to reach the quarterback that deep, opening screens, slants, and other quick passes.
