Women's BBALL: Slim still in town.
Happy Ballantines DAY! I was checking out the Wolverines record (edit), wins, and games remaining and the comparison to the men's squad is fairly interesting. The ladies are unranked, currently 4th in the conference at 7-5 (14-10 overall), and have played a tough schedule in and out of the BIG TEN. They have 2 wins over the OSU Womens team (edit), so I find myself smitten and bandwagoning so forgive me for that. It would be icing on the cake if both sides get dancing shoes this year.
In my experience on a couple of different campuses, fan support is a big deal in women's hoops so thanks to those fans who support this program. Living hours away, I am going to start tracking them on BIG TEN NETWORK. Slap me if there is already a thread on this.
Hail.

...to be funny, but Michigan's women's teams are called Wolverines. Not Wolverettes. Not Lady Wolverines. Wolverines.
While I appreciate your campaign to have folks increase their support for the WBB team, using a patronizing name for them is probably not the best approach.
Yes, I'm too serious.

On a side note, I'm really glad Michigan keeps them the Wolverines.
In high school I always thought it was annoying how (at my high school for example) the MBB team were the Golden Eagles, and the WBB team were the Lady Eagles.
No need for a distinction.

I grew up in Atlanta, so always heard the UGA women's teams called the Lady Bulldogs, or Lady Dawgs. The one notable exception seems to be the gymnastics team, which is simply referred to as the Gym Dogs - I think it's a great name. That has to be one of the most popular women's teams in all the country, of any sport. They have a HUGE following and are consistently one of the best teams in the nation. They actuall SELL OUT their arena for meets.

Gym Dawgs is a cool nickname. It's just when it feels kind of contrived and orchestrated that it bugs me. Just have a mascot for everyone, and go with it.
Also, Gym Dawgs would work for their mens team too, if they have one, it's more of a sport specific thing than a gender thing.

I didn't know what they were called. The Bucks either. Anyway I am glad they are Wolverines too.

The presence or absence of a certain appendage does not make us more or less so. How can we allbe united in "GO BLUE!" if we observe such petty distinctions? In high school, we were all "Hornets", regardless of which team it was.
