Maybe it was the drives that opened up the perimeter shot. It looked like Creighton didn't want him to shoot from outside for much of the game. One of the things JB teaches well is to be patient and take what the defense gives you. Sometimes the jumper is open; sometimes it isn't but the lane is.
I'm happy with the way he played. The game seemed to flow well when both Novak and Douglass were on the floor.

Dude, its obvious why he drove the lane. He wanted to showoff his super whiteboy skills.

To try and change things up. Creighton's D was smothering UM for a large chunk of the game. But Stu's long bomber of a 3 at the end was a thing of beauty. Kudos to Novak. He's a baller. Was also my first time seeing Darius play and I was impressed. He looked very comfy out there for the most part. LLP also came out strong with some impressive shooting and pivotal 3s toward the end of the game. Overall, the team looked very rusty but hopefully they'll shake it off and start to play better tomorrow.

Seems to me that Stu being able to drive the lane and add a mid range shot makes him a more dimensional player. It is not going to be perfect over night but I'm assuming he spent much of the off season working on his ball handling and working on diversifying his offensive game. I am more than OK with him doing this.
Like the poster above said it opens up shots on the perimeter.
Creighton played out of their minds today and we had an off day but we still won a very gutsy game.
FDR already had his new deal so I guess the only new deal left for Stu was to drive the lane.

beilein will get on him about this. i wouldnt be surprised to see that his career shot percentage in the paint is lower than that of beyond the arc.

get on him for taking the ball to the basket??? as the people said above he is doing the right thing by driving to the basket when the D is up in his face. that is one of the first things that is taught to you when you start playing organized bball. its no secret that stu can shoot threes just ask uconn. but if teams don't learn to respect the fact that he can take it to the basket every now and then he'll never have enough room to get a shot off unless he is coming off of a pick.

Just like in football when you run to set up the pass...Stu shoots the three to set up the "blow by". It's still a work in progress but it will lead to easier (theoretically higher percentage) shots or kick outs to team mates who are more wide open.
We should be encouraging him to do this as fans...it will help the team once the execution is there.
