Only if you like the meats.

I hate their commercials, and also their food so pass.

I’m still laughing - this is gold.

My default answer to these questions is always Dominick's, because Dominick's is always the right answer!
September 12th, 2022 at 1:22 PM ^
I'm a sucker for their sangria, but always get the worst headaches from it.
September 12th, 2022 at 3:57 PM ^
Love Dominick's for having a pitcher in the courtyard, but I don't recall their food being anything great. Have I missed something on their menu all these years?
September 12th, 2022 at 7:08 PM ^
The Italian sub is good. And good to share as it’s pretty big. Pizza is serviceable as is the quesadilla. But nothing special.
September 13th, 2022 at 7:44 AM ^
Nope. Dominicks is all about the experience. Sangria is... fine. Food is... meh. Sitting outside the afternooon of your last final exam in the spring? Priceless.

E - what kind of food are you looking for? There are a lot of good choices.
We prefer dining on / near Main Street - though there are a few near campus spots we like too.
One Mexican restaurant we like is Chapala on Main Street. From the Hill, it should be a five minute drive - traffic permitting. The food is good and reasonably priced.
Black Pearl and Palio are also good choices.
One suggestion - see if you can make a reservation in advance. It will avoid an hour long (or more) wait on a game day evening…
September 12th, 2022 at 1:01 PM ^
1) Picking someone up at Markley is pretty irrelevant info for this question.
2) Ask that person where they want to eat.
September 12th, 2022 at 1:36 PM ^
Or better yet, eat at Markley. If you need to ask where to eat in Ann Arbor, you deserve dorm food.
September 12th, 2022 at 9:04 PM ^
There's that Michigan arrogance that we all love so much....
September 12th, 2022 at 1:02 PM ^
I guess I should have expanded on my original question. How busy are restaurants after the game? I know Main Street has lots of good options but is very close to the stadium. I was going to get recommendations on this site then check on reservations. Thanks for all the responses so far except for Arbys, never Arbys. I mentioned the hilldorms as we are going to be on that side of Campus.
September 12th, 2022 at 1:06 PM ^
It’s going to be crowded. Park by Main Street. Stay parked after the game. Walk to the predetermined restaurant and meet your dinner companion there.
September 12th, 2022 at 1:27 PM ^
Henson - when we don’t host a tailgate, we’ve done what you suggested - park downtown - walk through the campus during the afternoon / pre game, and - after the game - walk down Main to the restaurant - and, have dinner as the traffic attempts to clear out.
September 12th, 2022 at 1:32 PM ^
E - restaurants and bars tend to be pretty full / packed after the game.
As others have pointed - what exactly do you want?
I think there are three general areas for food drink in Ann Arbor:
1) South U - which is really for students and the food (by and large) is nothing special - essentially bar food or pizza. I think Pizza House is a decent choice - the Cantina will probably packed.
2) State and Liberty - better food choices - but further from the Hill. Taste Kitchen is very good food, but - it’s also expensive. And
3) Main Street - furthest from the Hill - better variety of restaurants.
September 12th, 2022 at 4:27 PM ^
I do not understand Pizza House at all. I guess the food is basically ok, sort of at the Applebee's, Chili's, Olive Garden level, and has a really big menu that will have something for everyone regardless of their food preferences. But for pretty meh food, the prices are ridiculous. I seriously can't understand why the ones in A2 and EL are almost always packed.
September 13th, 2022 at 8:00 AM ^
78 - though I have eaten at Pizza House on several occasions, I’ve only eaten there once on a game day. We’ll usually select a restaurant on Liberty, or go downtown - on / near Main Street.

Not sure if this is a date, night with the boys, spending time with your kids, etc but you can't go wrong with Knight's. If you are looking for something close the downtown location has you covered but I also like the old school feel at the original Knights on Dexter Ave

This is like asking what music you should listen to at work today
but I’ll save you the hassle and say just go to Frita Batidos
September 12th, 2022 at 1:07 PM ^
That's kinda of tough question to answer OP because none of us know:
1. Your food preferences
2. Your budget
3. Your desire to have a drink or not with your meal
4. Your willingness to wait for a table
5. Your willingness to drive a bit for the meal
I could go on but man, that's like asking "what's the best color" or "which song should I play on the radio"
But if I have to answer I'd go with Casey's Tavern. Fantastic onion rings, nice menu, great beer selection and fun atmosphere
September 12th, 2022 at 4:03 PM ^
Casey's has a great cheeseburger.
September 12th, 2022 at 4:42 PM ^
These are all good questions and I'm going to commit them to memory for the next time the wife asks where we should go to eat.
September 12th, 2022 at 4:43 PM ^
And I, too, will suggest Casey's no matter what she answers.
September 12th, 2022 at 1:19 PM ^
If I may piggyback the OP's question. I have a date later that night. I'm picking her up at a hill dorm. What should I wear?
September 12th, 2022 at 1:24 PM ^
608, wear something cool and understated… that usually works… casual..
Oh, make sure you have comfortable shoes - consider a Nike Metcon or Jordan’s - it’s a long walk up to / back from the Hill.
September 12th, 2022 at 1:24 PM ^
Show up naked, or at most with a bathrobe, she will know you mean business.
September 12th, 2022 at 3:27 PM ^
EGJ, god I admire you...
September 12th, 2022 at 4:45 PM ^
I'm thinking blue. Navy, in fact. Or perhaps yellow, depending on your skin tone. But, definitely not that gross Adidas yellow.
September 12th, 2022 at 1:22 PM ^
My preferred post-game hangout for a bite to eat and an adult beverage is Ashley's. Good pub grub and their beer selection is extensive. Get there quickly after the game though, or expect a long wait for a table.
September 12th, 2022 at 1:22 PM ^
Dom Doughnuts.
September 12th, 2022 at 1:37 PM ^
Sabor Latino for Mexican
Parthenon or Thano's Lamplighter Restaurant for Greek
Famiglia Pizza on State & William for a slice
Zanzibar for something different
Einstein's Bagels on State for a bagel sandwich
Taco Bell on East U or McDonald's on South U if on a budget
September 12th, 2022 at 3:44 PM ^
Not to be too picky but some cursory internet research shows the Lamplighter out of business since 2006
September 12th, 2022 at 4:07 PM ^
Yeah, I wouldn't bother looking into the others.
September 12th, 2022 at 4:48 PM ^
Woosh
September 12th, 2022 at 4:49 PM ^
You forgot:
Drakes on North U for hot chocolate
Mr. Rib or DeLong's near Kerrytown for BBQ
The Spaghetti Bender on Huron for Italian
Steve's Lunch on South U for Korean
September 12th, 2022 at 5:05 PM ^
Could go for a Soul on a Roll right now...
September 12th, 2022 at 7:14 PM ^
The demise of Mr. Rib, especially the loss of the Soul on a Roll, is an injury from which Ann Arbor has yet to recover.
September 13th, 2022 at 1:59 PM ^
*pours one out for Einstein's* Worked there. That place was the source of nearly every one of my meals in the year 2000.
September 12th, 2022 at 1:39 PM ^
The aforementioned "where to eat in Ann Arbor" post is from over 10 years ago, and even then it was a little out of date - Don't bother. You'll get a lot of advice in this thread with "the classics" (Zingerman's, Dominick's, Blimpy Burger) and all are good but usually very busy on a gameday.
A couple outside-the-standards and sneaky-good options are Kang's on South U for Korean (Bulgogi and Bipimbap rock - Get the bipimbap in the hot stone bowl).
The other one is Joe's Pizza (corner of South U and East U) is an exceptional and relatively newer-ish addition to the AA restaurant scene... It's a walk-up pizza joint opened by Joe whose son went to UM - Joe owned a legendary NYC pizza place and decided he needed to open one in AA after his son went to UM. The only reason I even know about it is that my son graduated from UM in the spring, and for the first two years he lived in AA he kept raving about it and insisting that I go there and try it - I was hesitant because whenever I come to AA I have my own standards that I like to go to. Eventually we went and I was astounded at how good it was. It will be busy with a line but it moves quickly - seating is limited and first-come-first-served, and there is no waitstaff, but give it a shot, you won't be disappointed.
Both are walkable from the Hill dorms as parking is limited nearby on gamedays.
September 12th, 2022 at 1:43 PM ^
easyE: See if you can eat in the dorm.
I'm serious. I've heard from younger people I trust that the food there is better than what's available at many Ann Arbor restaurants. (I have difficulty relating to this when recalling my own experience many years ago.)
September 12th, 2022 at 2:07 PM ^
This is Ann Arbor restaurant slander
September 12th, 2022 at 2:18 PM ^
I have heard the dorm food is good too
